YouTube is consistently adding new features to improve their online music streaming service. Last weekend, YouTube Music received support for 3 features - Siri integration, desktop application, and Android utility.
- Get YouTube Music for Android. - Get YouTube Music for iPhone.
With the new Siri integration feature, YouTube Music users can easily ask Siri to play music from their favorite artists on YouTube Music. Siri will then start playing relevant songs, this feature is exclusive to iOS 13.
The desktop application they've added is not a standalone dedicated app. Instead, it's a Progressive Web App (PWA) that operates somewhat like a dedicated web app. According to 9to5Google's announcement, the PWA supports shortcuts to control the playback process. As soon as you open YouTube Music, you'll be prompted to install the PWA. This feature is being rolled out gradually and will soon support your personal computer. We've tried the PWA on Windows laptops and iMacs but it seems it's still not operational.
In the latest update of YouTube Music for Android, the company has added a handy widget. This widget will display album cover art along with controls like Previous, Play/Pause, Next, Like/Dislike buttons. Notably, it will pick colors based on the album cover being played. However, you'll be directed to the app immediately when playing music if you're not subscribed to YouTube Music.
Moreover, YouTube Music also supports Discover Mix - a list of newly released songs within the month. Additionally, Google is very confident in turning it into the default online music app on Android, replacing the old Google Play Music.
