YouTube's Mobile App Now Features Explore Tab

After undergoing a two-year testing phase, YouTube has finally introduced the Explore tab - a new hub for trending and fresh content on both Android and iOS.

YouTube initiated the Explore tab experiment for its iOS app to enhance content discovery in July 2018. However, this feature had never been released for mobile apps. That has now changed as the video streaming platform announced via its Support page that the Trending tab will be replaced by the new Explore tab on YouTube for iOS and Android. This update will be widely deployed to all users.

In addition to default trending videos, the Explore tab also provides users with 'destination pages' located at the top of the screen. What's more interesting is that the app also features a Trending page to solely display trending videos, similar to the previously available Trending tab.

Users scrolling through the Explore feed may also encounter sections like Creator on the Rise and Artist on the Rise. The company states that this segment introduces new content creators and emerging artists for users to discover.

The update appears to be a server-side change and does not require users to install a separate app update. Since this feature has just begun rolling out, it may take a little while longer for users to see the replacement of the new Explore tab for the Trending tab on the YouTube mobile app.
