Nintendo Switch has been on the market for over 6 years; however, until now, the Japanese manufacturer has not released any successor for this product. Despite its somewhat 'vintage' status, Nintendo's handheld gaming console still proves to be relatively powerful. Recently, YouTuber Geekerwan attempted to overclock the Nintendo Switch to run popular titles, including Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5), Titanfall 2, and even God of War.
GTA 5 Successfully Installed on Nintendo SwitchGeekerwan installed the Android 11 operating system on Nintendo Switch and overclocked the CPU to 2.3 GHz. The first model utilizes the NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor with 4 ARM Cortex-A57 CPU cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores, clocked at 1.0GHz.

This enabled him to access Steam and run some 'blockbuster' games, including Titanfall 2 and God of War, but the FPS results were very low, averaging around 5-30, making them nearly unplayable.
Geekerwan also experimented with playing Grand Theft Auto 5 on the Nintendo Switch, setting the resolution to HD 720p with low graphics. However, the average speed barely exceeded 10 FPS. Regardless, with the outdated hardware of the Nintendo Switch, running the aforementioned games was still a highly impressive feat.
With many new handheld gaming devices emerging in the market, Nintendo Switch is no longer the ideal choice for gamers. In fact, the latest ASUS ROG Ally and Steam Deck offer a much better gaming experience. However, there are rumors that Nintendo will release the Switch 2 later this year.
