(Homeland) - Zeka's accolades at the LCK Awards 2022 have left many spectators questioning.
On the evening of December 22nd (Vietnam time), the LCK organizers kicked off the LCK Awards 2022 ceremony. This annual award in the LCK region aims to honor individuals and teams who have excelled in the past season. The event witnessed the presence of players, coaching staff, and this time's outcomes brought about quite a few surprises.
In what can be considered an acceptable year, especially with the longest unbeaten streak in LCK and League of Legends history, all T1 members were celebrated at this year's LCK Awards. While Zeus was named Top Laner of the year, Keria equally shone with the Support of the year title, and Oner claimed the Jungler of the year. Additionally, Faker, Gumayusi, Zeus, and Keria were also 4 out of 5 members of the Spring 2022 All-Pro Team.
As for Gen.G Esports (Gen.G), despite winning the LCK Summer 2022, they only secured one collective award as the All-Pro Team. Only Ruler received another accolade as the ADC of the year after his outstanding performances from Spring to Summer and the 2022 World Championship Finals. However, he has since moved to the LPL and did not attend this event.
But most notably, it was Zeka - the reigning champion of the 2022 World Championship. Despite a fairly successful Worlds, Zeka's domestic performance does not match up. He and DRX almost lost their spot at Worlds. This young player also failed to make it into the top 3 All-Pro Teams for both Spring and Summer.
However, Zeka has achieved the titles of Player of the Year and Mid Laner of the Year. This immediately sparked controversy on numerous League of Legends forums in both LCK and internationally. According to many arguments, while Faker and Chovy both had shining performances domestically, Zeka walked away empty-handed in individual categories. Moreover, since these are the LCK Awards, using the results from Worlds 2022 may not be entirely fair to the players.
LCK fans' inquiries are all directed towards the event organizers and Riot in the LCK region. Because this award has too many discrepancies, the event organizers must answer the fans' questions. Only a clear and reasonable explanation can soothe the frustration of many viewers after this year's LCK Awards.
