The most notable addition in Zoom's update for Android is the ability to change virtual backgrounds, a feature already present in the desktop version of the app. Currently, these virtual backgrounds can only be set as static images. In the context of the pandemic-induced shift to remote work, this feature is a welcomed addition for Android users as it allows them to conceal unwanted elements during video calls.
The latest update also improves the integration of Zoom's Android app with Calendar and enhances scheduling features with default settings. Additionally, it allows users to share audio from their devices with other participants.
With the Breakout Rooms feature, meeting hosts can divide the meeting into a maximum of 50 sessions. According to the update, participants now also have the option to self-select Breakout Rooms. Below are the changes in Zoom's latest update for Android:
General Features:
- Enhanced calendar synchronization.
- Advanced scheduling with default settings.
- Device audio sharing.
- Virtual background support for Android.
Meeting Features:
- Self-select Breakout Rooms.
Chat Features:
- Hide chat bots in IM list.
- Enhanced Link Preview feature.
- Improved search.
- Mark as unread for images and files.
Resolved Issues:
- Fixed Breakout Rooms not adhering to main session settings/restrictions.
- Addressed minor bugs.
However, another notable change is that Zoom's Android version is no longer supported for Chromebook (according to Android Police). It's unclear why, but users can no longer download this video conferencing tool from the Play Store on Chromebook, instead having to use the web version via a browser, which does not support the full list of features provided by the app.
