Zoom, one of the leading online video conferencing software that has experienced significant growth during the COVID-19 pandemic and faced scrutiny due to its poor privacy policies, will debut on smart displays by the end of this year. The California-based company announced today that users will be able to join Zoom meetings from Amazon's Echo Show, Facebook's Portal, and Google's Nest Hub Max by the end of 2020.

Facebook's smart displays will be the first devices to integrate Zoom, starting next month. The feature will allow users to join meetings with just a single tap, and the smart camera feature will function as usual, focusing on users and ensuring they remain in frame as they move around. In a separate announcement, Facebook also confirmed that other meeting tools including Webex, BlueJeans, and GoToMeeting will be added simultaneously, and they will work on all existing Portal devices, except for Portal TV.

Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub will have to wait until late autumn to gain access to Zoom. Both platforms will allow users to request Alexa or Google Assistant to join meetings, and if users link their calendars with the respective virtual assistants, they can join without entering an ID or password. For Echo Show users, the rollout will begin with Echo Show 8.
If you prefer Google's smart display over Zoom's specific support for Nest Hub Max, a separate announcement from Google reveals that Zoom will operate on other virtual assistant-supported smart displays.
While Zoom is notorious for mishandling user privacy, the company has made several changes in recent months to turn the tide.
