3. The Fragile Flower
The Fragile Flower is a musical film directed by Mai Thu Huyen. The story highlights the success of a Vietnamese individual in the United States, underscored by 15 Vietnamese songs, all beautifully orchestrated and arranged.
The narrative revolves around the ups and downs of a famous female singer, who possesses both beauty and talent, along with the complex relationships surrounding her. Director and producer Mai Thu Huyen shared that, since the film centers on the life of a famous singer, there had to be many music performances. Two major music events are featured at the start and end of the film, with 2,500 spectators in Las Vegas and 4,000 in Pachenga. Notably, both of these scenes were filmed live, 100%.
This also marks the first Vietnamese film shot entirely in the United States, and filming abroad presented many challenges such as staffing, equipment, logistics, culture, and especially the steep costs. The pre-production phase took around 4 months, and the shooting was rushed into just one month, followed by 6 months of post-production.
