1. The Royal Tomb Complexes
Hue is not only renowned for its picturesque landscapes but also for being a sacred land, the final resting place of Nguyen Dynasty kings. History enthusiasts must not miss the chance to visit the majestic royal tombs, such as those of Emperor Tu Duc and Emperor Minh Mang. Each tomb is a unique masterpiece, reflecting the architectural brilliance of the era.
The Hue tomb complex consists of 9 royal burial sites, including the tombs of Trường Cơ, Trường Diễn, Trường Diên, Trường Hưng, Trường Mậu, Trường Thanh, Trường Phong, Trường Thái, and Trường Thiệu, all situated along the banks of the Huong River to the west of Hue. In addition to the royal tombs, there are also tombs dedicated to the emperor’s wives, with approximately 11 tombs in total. These tombs are designed in a simple yet elegant style, featuring basalt stone, brick, and two concentric enclosures. In front of each tomb is an incense altar, and behind it, a screen adorned with intricate carvings of dragons and phoenixes, often highlighted with ceramic tiles or lime plaster.
Although many tombs were heavily damaged during the Tay Son Dynasty, one relatively intact structure remains: the tomb of Empress Dowager Tran Thi Xa. Instead of visiting modern tourist spots, why not explore and learn about the fascinating history of these royal tombs this March 8th?

2. Thien Mu Pagoda
The "bell of Thien Mu, the rooster crow of Tho Suong" has long been immortalized in songs about Hue. This centuries-old pagoda attracts visitors not only with its unique architecture and peaceful atmosphere but also as a place for reflection amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Known also as Linh Mu Pagoda, it is situated on Ha Khe Hill, overlooking the poetic Huong River in the Kim Long ward of Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province. The pagoda was founded in the year of Tan Suu (1601) during the reign of Nguyen Hoang, the first lord of the southern Nguyen dynasty, making it one of the oldest pagodas in the ancient capital.
A defining symbol of Thien Mu Pagoda is the Phuoc Duyen Tower. This seven-story tower, standing 21 meters tall, is located in front of the pagoda and houses statues of Buddha on each level. Inside, a spiral staircase leads to the top floor, where a golden Buddha statue was once enshrined. This spot is an enchanting place to visit, especially for a March 8th outing.

Historically, Emperor Khai Dinh built a royal retreat here, known as the “Tinh Viem Palace” (meaning “Cool and Refreshing Palace”), where he and the empresses would escape the summer heat. The French also left their influence on the area’s name, which may have evolved from “Làng Cò” or “L'An Cư” due to a mispronunciation.
