1. SCENT OF THE BETEL LEAF BACK THEN!
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
(Dedicated to the children of fallen soldiers)
In the garden, the betel leaves emit a fragrant scent
The small bunches of flowers beside the green leaves
As autumn arrives, the golden sunlight falls
Still, I hear my mother's voice echoing in the silence
Lullaby, my child falls into a deep sleep
When you grow up, you’ll carry on your father's work
The betel flowers fall, covering the courtyard
The green betel leaves forever wait for the one who won’t return
Father went to the battlefield in the South
In the fierce war, never to return
One day, mother wrapped the betel leaves
Silently, she wept for the pain of losing her husband
Do you understand, child, though young?
The hopes and dreams mother kept, waiting day by day
For the victory that would reunite our family
And fill our hearts with love and joy
But the battlefield brought sorrow and despair
Turning the sky gray, soaking the land in grief
In July, the rainy season comes again
My heart aches for my mother's struggles in the sun and rain
I miss my father, lost in the Trường Sơn mountains
I go to the temple and light incense, praying for him
Father and his comrades sleep forever
In their peaceful heaven, where happiness awaits, father
I’m proud of the brave soldier
Who brought peace to the country, and to my father's life!
P.S: *To the battlefield in the South

2. TRANSITION OF SEASONS
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
Late summer fades, the cicadas’ song dies down
The phoenix flowers lose their vibrant red hue
The purple flowers along the path grow faint
Suddenly, a wave of longing for summer stirs within
As autumn approaches, the sky is crisp with white clouds
The yellow chrysanthemums bloom delicately
The sun calls, but the rain arrives unexpectedly
Dropping sadness into the wandering sunlight
Love once given, in a time of innocence
Now fades, just like time itself
The quiet night returns from afar
And a bit of love lingers, tied to my homeland
I wander through the illusory world
The moment of season change bids farewell to uncertainties.

3. SONG OF THE SEASON'S END
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
June has passed, but it still lives within me
The scorching sun, shared with you through the pandemic
The endless thoughts and worries weighing on my mind
Hoping for the country to find peace soon
June may be gone, but it remains within my heart
Time stretches endlessly in the sorrow of memories
The purple flowers flutter by the window
The red phoenix petals color the old roof
July arrives, bringing the first drops of rain
The fields turn lush after the summer heat
Counting moments as the sky holds its breath
Will you return to welcome autumn with me?

4. THIS IS MY COUNTRY!
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
Oh, how cherished the words 'Vietnam' sound
A nation that will never bow or be defeated
From ancient times to the farthest future
We share our rice, our blood flows as one
Millions of hearts beat with a shared, extraordinary rhythm
In hardship, our spirit only grows brighter
This is our country, isn't it, my love?
With devoted hearts, volunteers dive in to help
They ensure no one suffers from hunger or fear
The doctors, the police, the soldiers
They sacrifice everything, forgetting their own needs
In adversity, their bond of comradeship grows stronger
In hardship, the love for our people deepens
The whole nation rises like a storm of unity
We love our country with all our humanity!
We long to kneel and kiss the sacred soil
Our beloved homeland, Vietnam, we cherish you!

5. A PAST TIME
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
There was a time when white shirts fluttered in the breeze
Watching the phoenix flowers fall, lost in their beauty
The pages were pristine, inked in purple hues
You painted your life in the sparkle of your eyes
There was a time when every morning was full of joy
Songs shared with someone, your hair dancing in the wind
The familiar road leading to class every day
Words of promises and waits, as the sun slowly sets
There was a time when you left a mark on me
Pure words of love lingered on your lips
I held on to every memory, full of longing
Flipping through moments, filled with yearning
You turned away, leaving love behind
Letting me be lost in the storm
Now, I come to find you in the empty schoolyard
And that time remains forever in my heart!

6. MY LOVE FOR YOU
Poem by: Hồ Thị Hiền
You return and count the passing time
Sending me the endless days of waiting
Back then, I loved you by chance
Now, with each memory, we hold each other close
The rain and sun of each day form a bridge
Binding us together with all the colors of love
The nights past intertwine with the present
Sending our memories, with our love ever so deep
You gather all the warmth and tenderness
Weave it into the days we share in love!

7. EVERY DAY WITH MY FATHER
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
My father is no longer with us on this earth
Yet I carry his legacy, honoring him with my life
As I sit here, memories of the past come flooding back
The lessons he taught, words that still echo in my heart
The rain and sunshine shaped my path
He endured hardships, giving me the sweetness of life
Rest in peace, dear father, in the distant world
In this life, I will forever cherish the pure love you gave
My heart aches for the struggles you bore
Even as you lay down your hands, you still worried for me!

8. WAITING...!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
I send you a little sunshine and a bit of cloud
To gather them there, bringing sun and clouds together
The sun wanders aimlessly, as the days grow empty
The sun tilts and the cloud sways, searching for each other
Why hold on to anger, let the sun shine freely?
The sun flows in, scattering the scent of lotus flowers
The cloud rests peacefully, waiting for the sun’s warm embrace
Why does the sun keep hesitating to return?
Let’s find each other in the quiet moments, dear sun
In the peaceful sky, where the sun and cloud meet in harmony
I return to the place where I once waited
Waiting for you to come, so the sun and clouds can kiss me once again!

9. THE RAIN HAS COME
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
The earth curves, welcoming the rain
The rain pours down, flooding the land
The earth embraces it all
Drinking in the cool, intoxicating droplets
The land, weary and parched until now
Suddenly finds relief as the rain falls heavily
The earth, burdened for so long
Now smiles with the rain’s arrival
The earth beams with joy
Flowers and leaves awaken from dreams
Dreams of the summer rain
As all creatures sing in harmony!

10. THE DROP OF YOUR LOVE
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
Your love is like the summer sun
It burns deep into my heart
Leaving behind only traces of spring
As the days stretch endlessly, uncertain
The sun is both gentle and fierce
At times it plays, teasing and warm
Pouring golden rays, one drop at a time
Calling the rain to follow the seasons
There are moments, without reason
When the fire flares, burning far and wide
And in those moments, I wait
For the sun to return to us
We love the scorching summer sun
As if it carries jealousy and longing
Once is enough for a lifetime
Your love is the golden drop of sun!

11. THE OATH WE MADE!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
What more can the sky do, with storms and winds
My heart heavy as I wait for the boat by the river
We had promised, but where did the boat go?
The riverbank still stands, yet the boat is nowhere to be seen
You return and leave a message
"Don't wait anymore, the river's depths are too uncertain!"
The waiting, bitter like rain and sun
But I return, holding onto the passing years with love!
The vow we made lasts through the ages
Why do you not remember, the moon that once united us?
Who can I blame for this wait by the riverbank?
My heart longs, bringing with it all the unspoken desires!
You returned, but forgot the promises of the past
Leaving me soaked in memories, as the dawn of youth fades!

12. A WHOLE SKY OF LOVE!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
The purple flowers have bloomed, my dear
The crimson phoenix has lit up the summer night
Outside, the cicadas sing in chorus
Calling for you, yet you’ve long passed by
The schoolyard now houses new dreams
The bamboo walls have made way for towering buildings
The trees whisper in the breeze
And I wait for you to visit once again
Time spins on, unchanged
Spring fades into summer, gentle as ever
But how I miss the days of old!
Come back to our old school, where youth once flourished!

13. MY MOTHER!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
(To my mother on Mother's Day, 9/5)
A lifetime of toil, from dawn to dusk
Raising me without concern for success or failure
Like a heron navigating the waters at all hours
Mother’s shoulders carry the weight of sun and rain through it all
Softly, you stayed awake through long winter nights
Hoping for dreams of a lush, endless field
Through sunshine and storms, you’ve endured it all
Now your hair turns silver, and I still haven't repaid your love
I pray that in the years ahead, my mother finds happiness
With her children’s warm hands in hers
Her smile a blessing, bringing joy to us all!

14. SUMMER HAS ARRIVED!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
When did summer arrive?
The cicadas hum from beneath the leaves
The trees buzz with sunlight
As the golden days usher in youth.
Through the window, I glimpse
A budding cluster of phoenix flowers
Fresh as a pair of rosy lips
Whispering secrets of love.
A glance in the mirror startles me
Spring seems like a fleeting lover
Leaving behind the crow’s feet
And where did my beautiful lashes go?

15. THIRST
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
Spring arrives, thirsting for buds to bloom
The sky is clear, swallows circle in flight
Spring thirsts for the love of a pair
Hand in hand, we sing a love song!
Summer arrives, longing for a heavy rain
To fill the cracks in our fields
To let the banyan tree spread its emerald leaves
And the phoenix flowers blaze as they bloom!
Autumn arrives, yearning for golden sunshine on chrysanthemums
The school bell rings, waking up to welcome you
The red flag flutters, symbolizing our country
Independence forever, the victory anthem resounds!
Winter comes, thirsting for thousands of rays of sunlight
So I can show off my colorful coats
Remembering the old times when Bân knitted sweaters
Winter passes, but the sweater remains unfinished!
I love you, thirsting for your warm embrace!
Thirsting for a lifetime where we never part!

16. APRIL
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
I touch the heat of April
Endlessly burning with memories
You, the petal of my life, my other half
Longing forever for love's sweet emotions
I arrived with the blazing April sun
The turning moment, the breeze awakens your heart
The foolishness, the love, the little quarrels
Like the sun
Thirsting for the first rain
The fire burns
On my lips, in the corners of my eyes
The long thirst whispers our names!

17. STEADFAST FAITH
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
The epidemic arrived in my hometown unexpectedly
Bringing with it concerns and unease
The once tranquil village roads are now obstructed
Barriers set up, blocking every way back
With a determined step, we march towards battle
Ready to carry out the task the Party entrusted
Helping the people stay strong, resolute
The epidemic is here, but we must hold fast
If anyone suspects they are infected
They must report quickly to stop the spread
With love for the nation and sincerity for our homeland
We share the effort, keeping our hearts united
My homeland, Nghệ An, has long been
Sunlight pouring across the land, relentlessly hot
The scorching winds of the region, burning like fire
But now, the epidemic has made things even worse
But still,
We trust in the Party, in our country
Together, we will fight to defeat the epidemic.

18. TALK TO ME!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
You once waded through my poetry
Stirred, passionate, and full of frustration
But darling, I am nothing more than a wildflower
In a humble corner of the garden, not tall or grand
I’m not a great poet, nor a poet at all
Just a simple little hut of verses
Living through the colors of life’s journey
Filling it with love and human kindness
Gathering emotions, like leaves and flowers
Adding a sweet fragrance to this life
That’s all my poetry is about
Don’t let anger or envy darken your heart
My words may sound flowery, full of praise
But know this, poetry is just poetry
And I will always remain as I am—vibrant and pure
A little corner of the garden, a simple blade of grass, that’s me, my dear!

19. SEASON OF WAITING!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
I will wait for you through all the seasons
As golden sunlight paints flowers on the leaves
Restlessly counting the passing moments
Not a trace of sorrow as the days drift by
I’ve waited through the summer that’s gone
As autumn arrives with golden blooms
Erasing the worn paths where the sun has burned
Thirsting for rain to pour and fill the earth...
I’ve waited for you, carrying the bitter taste
Of winter, with all its longing and memories
Watching the clear moon in the silent night
Waiting for the crescent to become full again
I’ve waited for you, measuring time endlessly
As it melts away through the ever-turning seasons
Each spring, I’ll change my colors with you
And when you return, all my memories will close in your arms!

20. I LOVE YOU, SAIGON!
Poem by: Hồ Hiền
Every day, I read the news
And my heart aches, heavy with sorrow
Saigon, as beautiful as a poem
Suddenly struck by the disease, the streets now empty
The disease spreads, more dangerous every day
Into every alley, reaching every neighborhood
My heart aches for your restless sleep
And I pray for the peace of the city, day and night
Let this pain end
May the storm pass, and the city stay strong
Through suffering, we shall rise
Saigon will forever stand proud, reaching high
With all my love, I send my deepest affection
The warmth of family, steadfast like the evening light
Out here, millions of hearts beat as one
Joining hands, we stand strong for our people
Endless streams of cars drive south
Carrying doctors and heroes to the frontline
Bringing food, supplies, and love
Saigon, we stand with you, through it all
Our beloved Saigon
When the storm clears, we will sing a song of triumph!
