Once a prominent location during the resistance, Quang Tri's tourism stands out with historical sites. Additionally, there are many other natural attractions awaiting your exploration.
Quang Tri Citadel
Quang Tri Citadel is the most iconic tourist destination in Quang Tri that you must visit. Initially built with earth, it was rebuilt with bricks in 1839 during the reign of King Minh Mang. The citadel is square-shaped, with a perimeter of over 2,000 meters and a height of over 4 meters. The citadel is surrounded by a moat, and each of its four corners has a fortress. For 81 days and nights, the US dropped more than 328,000 tons of bombs here. As a result, the Quang Tri Citadel became known internationally as the 'meat grinder.' The nearby Thach Han River was referred to as the 'river of blood.'

The banks of the Hien Luong – Ben Hai Rivers
In 1954, the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel was chosen as the boundary to divide Vietnam into two military zones after the Geneva Agreement. The banks of the Hien Luong River became a 'historical witness' of the country's painful division for over 20 years. This complex of historical sites includes: the Hien Luong Bridge, the Ben Hai River, the flagpole on the North bank, the joint house, the police post at the border, the loudspeaker system, the monument complex 'Desire for Reunification' on the South bank, and the museum at the 17th parallel.

Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery
Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery is the largest national cemetery, covering an area of 106 hectares. It serves as the final resting place for young volunteers, soldiers, and laborers who defended the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Located on Ben Tat Hill in Vinh Truong Commune, Gio Linh District, the cemetery is divided into five sections. The central area sits atop a hill 32.4 meters high, featuring a memorial made of white stone. The other four sections are arranged by province and are spread across five hills.

Vinh Moc Tunnels
The Vinh Moc Tunnels were constructed in 1965, stretching approximately 2,000 meters. The tunnels are built in three levels, each serving a different purpose. To this day, the tunnels have largely retained their original architecture and have become a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all over to explore and learn about the site.

Khe Sanh
Khe Sanh is one of the most historically significant locations in Quang Tri. It encompasses almost the entire area of the current Huong Hoa District. The U.S. military established a base here, hoping to block supplies traveling from North to South along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Today, visitors to Khe Sanh can explore the Lang Vay base, Ta Con airfield, the Lao Bao prison, and the Khe Sanh military base site.

Bich La Ancient Village
Bich La Ancient Village is located in Trieu Dong Commune, Trieu La District, and is a historically significant land. The village preserves long-standing cultural values and is the birthplace of many talented individuals throughout history, including the late General Secretary Le Duan. Having existed for over five centuries, the village is famous for its rich cultural activities and is surrounded by beautiful scenery, with rivers and mountains, making it an ideal place for exploration.

La Vang Pilgrimage Center
La Vang Pilgrimage Center is located in Hai Phu Commune, Hai Lang District. It is an important pilgrimage site for Catholics and also a popular tourist destination. At the center, the bell tower, made of old bricks, stands out. This bell tower is part of the La Vang Sanctuary, which was originally built in 1925. In 1972, the sanctuary was destroyed by bombs during the war, and only the bell tower remains to this day.

Treok Cape
Treok Cape is a wide coastal cape located in Vinh Kim Commune, Vinh Linh District. The rocky promontory rises 25–30 meters above sea level. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the blue sea and white sands. To reach Treok Beach, visitors must travel along a narrow path beneath large tree canopies. The cape is bordered on one side by a pristine forest and on the other by the sea. With several kilometers of coastline, Treok Cape is a beloved destination for many tourists.

Con Co Island
Con Co Island is a tourist destination located about 30km off the coast. During the American resistance war, the island's residents achieved several significant victories. The island was twice honored as a "heroic island." Con Co is home to diverse vegetation, a rich marine ecosystem, and beautiful coral reefs. Notably, red coral, the first of its kind to appear in Vietnam, can be found here. Along with the coral, visitors can find seaweed, green stars, sea cucumbers, and various other marine species.

Tra Loc Swamp
Although Quang Tri is known as the "Land of the Lao Wind," Tra Loc Swamp is an exception. Nature has blessed this area with pristine beauty and a rich ecosystem. Located about 5 km from National Highway 1A, Tra Loc Swamp is a vast wetland area in Hai Lang District. "Tram," as the locals call it, refers to a swampy region full of fish and shrimp. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy traditional countryside dishes such as steamed fish wrapped in rice paper, grilled buffalo meat with trông leaves, and fish porridge with vạt giường.

Con Tien Base – Doc Mieu
In 1947, Doc Mieu was the site of a French military outpost to block National Highway 1A. Con Tien Base – Doc Mieu marks the two ends of the McNamara Electronic Fence. Doc Mieu is also considered the "eye of the fence." After 1954, the South Vietnamese government and the United States transformed Doc Mieu into the largest military base in Gio Linh District. Today, it is a popular tourist destination when visiting Quang Tri.

Dai An Khe Village
Dai An Khe Village retains its natural beauty, untouched by time. Right at the entrance, visitors are greeted by a classic gate architecture. As you step into the village, a tree-lined avenue of ancient ironwood trees stretches ahead, flanked by vast rice fields. Anyone passing through this path will be deeply impressed. During the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, Dai An Khe becomes a bustling center for making 'banh chung' and 'banh tet' (traditional rice cakes), supplying the entire region. The local bakery produces thousands of cakes each day, with the moon-shaped 'banh tet' being the most famous variety.

Ta Puong Waterfall
Ta Puong Waterfall is a scenic cluster consisting of a cave and two waterfalls. The Ta Puong cave is about 10 meters wide and extends 200 meters into the mountain. During the war, the cave served as a refuge for locals. Ta Puong 1 Waterfall, standing over 20 meters high, cascades down from the mountainside through sheer rock cliffs. About a 20-minute walk downstream from Ta Puong 1 is Ta Puong 2 Waterfall. The waterfalls feature refreshing cool waters and crystal-clear pools. These natural attractions are must-see spots for tourists in Quang Tri.
