Beyond the bustling modern cities, Japan also captivates with its serene and aesthetic beauty. Mount Fuji, the eternal symbol of Japan, is a must-visit destination. This 4-day, 3-night journey will take you deep into the world of Mount Fuji, exploring emerald lakes, charming historic streets, and other captivating attractions.
Let's kick off the 4-day, 3-night Mount Fuji adventure from Tokyo and immerse ourselves in the enchanting beauty of this remarkable region!
Day 1: Departing from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko

Starting from the vibrant capital of Tokyo, our adventure begins with a rental car, giving us the freedom to explore every corner at our own pace. Our first stop is the quaint Shimoyoshida Honcho district. Here, you can feel the nostalgic atmosphere that fills every street, with traditional shops and the distant silhouette of Mount Fuji in the background.

Next, we visit Chureito Temple, located within the Arakurayama Sengen Park. This is a fantastic spot to admire the beauty of Mount Fuji. The image of the five-story pagoda, with the majestic Mount Fuji in the background and the sprawling city of Fujiyoshida below, forms a perfect natural landscape, especially during cherry blossom season. To reach the observation deck, you'll need to climb nearly 400 steps, but each step is worth it when you are met with breathtaking views.

In the afternoon, continue your journey with a visit to Kawaguchiko Lake, one of the famous lakes in the Five Fuji Lakes. Kawaguchiko Lake not only offers stunning views but is also the perfect spot to try the local specialty, hoto noodles. As you stroll along the lake’s shore during sunset, the tranquil beauty of the place will transport you into a world of serenity. After a fulfilling day, rest up at a lakeside hotel, ready for the next exciting adventure the following day.
Day 2: Exploring the Five Fuji Lakes

On the second day of our 4-day, 3-night Mount Fuji itinerary, we visit other renowned spots in the Five Fuji Lakes. The first stop of the day is Saiko Lake. If you seek peace and quiet, this place will surely meet your expectations.

Saiko Lake isn't too crowded, and its lush surroundings and mountain views create a truly relaxing atmosphere. You can take a leisurely walk around the lake or explore nearby caves. These caves, especially the Bat Cave and Ice Cave, add a bit of adventure and challenge to your journey.

Next, we head to Shoji Lake, the smallest of the Five Fuji Lakes, but with its own unique, untouched beauty. This lake offers a wonderful vantage point to view Mount Fuji in the distance, free from any buildings or crowds. Take a moment to sit back, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy this rare, peaceful setting.

The afternoon begins with a trip to Motosu Lake, famous for its crystal-clear waters, even featured on the 1000 yen bill of Japan. If you visit between April and May, don't miss the Shibazakura Festival, where vibrant pink moss phlox flowers blanket the area. This is also a great time to enjoy local delicacies at the festival and take some memorable photos.
Day 3: Fun at Fuji-Q Highland and Exploring Local Culture

The third day starts with an adrenaline-filled adventure at Fuji-Q Highland, a renowned amusement park offering some of the world's most thrilling rides. For thrill-seekers, rides like Fujiyama, the 'King of Roller Coasters,' or Takabisha, with its 121-degree drop, promise an unforgettable experience. The screams of excitement and smiles will make this day unforgettable.

In the afternoon, we head to Oshino Hakkai, a peaceful traditional village with eight crystal-clear ponds. The water here is filtered through volcanic rocks from Mount Fuji, giving it its signature emerald blue hue. Strolling through the narrow lanes, you’ll have the chance to discover local culture and enjoy traditional dishes like dango (skewered rice dumplings) or grilled fish.

At the end of the day, we visit the Fuji 5th Station, the highest point accessible by car on Mount Fuji. The crisp, cool air and panoramic views of the Five Fuji Lakes make it the perfect stop. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of the sunset, painting the sky and mountain in a warm red hue.

Explore Japan with a Self-Drive Rental from Mytour

Don't worry about language barriers when renting a car in Japan! You can easily choose your preferred vehicle, select the appropriate insurance (it's recommended to go for comprehensive coverage), and add extras like a child safety seat or an English GPS. You can even opt for a one-way rental, such as picking up the car in Kawaguchiko and returning it in Tokyo.
Renting a car in Japan also gives you the flexibility to cancel for free up to a certain point, allowing you to adjust your plans as needed. And don’t forget to use Mytour’s discount codes (new ones often come out every month) to save even more!
Important Tips for Renting a Car in Japan

You’ll need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in Japan. Be sure to apply early (it takes about ten business days) or get one immediately by applying in person at the Singapore Automobile Association. The IDP is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Make sure to get an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) card with your rental car. This card makes it easy to pay highway tolls, similar to a public transport card, but for road tolls. Usually, you’ll settle these fees when you return the car.
If you plan to travel long distances by car, consider renting Japan’s GPS system to help navigate the roads more easily.
Pay attention to the speed limits: typically 60 km/h on regular roads and 100 km/h on highways.
Take breaks at rest stops, where you can find plenty of interesting things! Visit Fujikawa-Rakuza, known for selling Suruga Bay seafood and local farm produce. You can even find a traditional Japanese tea room and a Ferris wheel here.
Remember, you will drive on the left side of the road, so make sure you’re comfortable with that.
Children under six years old must be seated in a child safety seat. You can easily add one when you rent the car.
If you’re in an accident, call the police by dialing 110. For an ambulance, dial 119.
The 4-day, 3-night Mount Fuji adventure has been an unforgettable journey, from the majestic beauty of the Five Fuji Lakes to the thrilling experiences at Fuji-Q Highland. We hope #teamMytour has as much fun and finds inspiration on this incredible itinerary!
