Many passengers, fearing long queues for check-in, were willing to pay extra for fast-track services, costing from 100,000 VND per trip. However, after some time, the service sparked debates and revealed several disadvantages, leading the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to order airlines to halt the implementation of priority check-in services.

Priority check-in services offered by airlines have sparked numerous controversies and issues
VietjetAir was the first airline to launch a priority check-in service at the airport, charging 100,000 VND for domestic flights and 140,000 VND for international routes, excluding taxes.
Following in VietjetAir's footsteps, Bamboo Airways quickly rolled out a similar priority check-in service with comparable fees.
This add-on service is available for purchase when booking tickets, with customers being able to select it on the airline's website or purchase it directly at the airline's counters at the airport. The service must be booked at least three hours before the scheduled departure time for domestic flights and four hours for international flights.
Vietnam Airlines does not offer a priority check-in service. Instead, the airline provides a ticket upgrade service at various price points, which includes benefits such as priority check-in, priority boarding, and access to the business class lounge.
The priority check-in service offered by airlines is designed to meet the demand of passengers who wish to quickly complete their procedures and avoid the long wait at the airport. Passengers who need this service can opt for it and pay an additional fee, which is not included in the regular taxes or fixed charges. When offering this service, airlines carefully consider the costs and regulations to ensure passengers feel comfortable and that the service is worth the fee paid.
However, the introduction of priority check-in services has also sparked debates and dissatisfaction, with some passengers feeling that it creates unfair treatment. While passengers with the same ticket may have to wait for long periods during busy times, those who pay the extra fee are given priority service.
Additionally, the priority check-in service has several flaws, such as the airline's existing policy of prioritizing check-in for premium passengers. If a regular ticket holder uses this service, they are treated on the same level as premium customers, which ultimately lowers the quality of service for those traveling in premium classes.
Moreover, the priority check-in service does not resolve airport congestion, as passengers still need to go through security just like regular passengers.
In response to this issue, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam held a meeting, reviewed regulations with airline representatives and airport authorities, and instructed airlines to immediately stop offering paid priority check-in services. This decision was made to protect passengers' rights and avoid negative public opinion.
In the event of any changes in the aviation service provision process, airlines and aviation service companies are responsible for reporting to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam prior to implementation.
