The Netherlands is renowned not just for its iconic windmills, wooden clogs, and tulips, but also as a 'land of festivals', where a wide variety of lively celebrations fill the calendar year-round.
1. Queen's Day (Koningsdag)
This is the largest festival in the Netherlands. In 1980, when Queen Beatrix ascended to the throne, she chose to honor her mother by celebrating Queen's Day on April 30th, which was also her mother's birthday, Queen Juliana.

Keukenhof Garden, home to about 7 million flowers, attracts over 700,000 tourists annually from around the world. The most beautiful time to visit is during the end of April and early May. During this period, a colorful flower parade takes place with dozens of whimsical, vibrantly decorated floats.

The Charles Dickens Festival is held in the city of Deventer on the last Saturday and Sunday before Christmas. On this day, the lively atmosphere of the 19th century, as portrayed in the masterpieces of Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870), the famous English author, is brought to life. The attire, makeup, gestures, and behaviors of the aristocratic couples, young people, families, and 19th-century royal soldiers can be seen on the streets in a very authentic and everyday manner.
