As part of the railway route over Hai Van Pass, the Đồn Cả Arch Bridge is both ancient and surrounded by trees, with a stream flowing beneath, making it a truly restorative place.
Đồn Cả Arch Bridge
The Đồn Cả Arch Bridge is a key structure in the 1,730 km North-South railway line. Built by the French in the early 20th century, it serves as a boundary between Da Nang and Hue, enveloped by the lush greenery of the mountains and forests. Though located near the North Hai Van Station and the Đồn Cỏ relic, the bridge was previously little known due to the difficult access in earlier times.

Hai Van Pass is the longest, highest, and most challenging pass on the national railway route. To ensure the safety of trains crossing it, the French built several tunnels and bridges over ravines and streams. The arch bridge is one such vital structure, playing a crucial role in the train journey through Hai Van Pass for over a century.

The Đồn Cả Arch Bridge has stood for over a century. With its arch design and stone pillars, the bridge stands approximately 20 meters high, spanning across ravines and streams. It is surrounded by dense, vibrant forests, fresh air, and the soothing sound of the stream flowing beneath. Large rocks at the base of the bridge make it a perfect spot for camping, recreation, and photography.

Experience at Đồn Cả Bridge
One of the most exciting experiences here is capturing the moment when a train passes. Before the train arrives, you’ll hear the sound from afar, so be ready with your camera. In addition to enjoying the view and taking photos with the train, visitors can also immerse themselves in the cool stream. The small stream winds through the area, with rocks creating crystal-clear pools. These pools range in depth from 1.5 meters to about 4 meters. When swimming, visitors should take precautions to avoid drowning.

If you're coming to Đồn Cả Arch Bridge from Da Nang, you'll need to cross Hai Van Pass. After passing Hai Van Quan, continue for about 5 kilometers, and you'll find a small road on the right leading down. This is a narrow trail through the forest, steep and winding, about 2 kilometers long. The end of the trail leads to the entrance of the North Hai Van Station. You can leave your vehicle there and walk about 1 kilometer along the railway to reach the bridge.
