A trip to Russia would be incomplete without visiting the VDNH. It's one of the largest exhibition, educational, and cultural centers in the world.
Introduction to the VDNH

For anyone traveling to Russia, the VDNH is a must-see destination. The center was first opened in 1939 under the name ‘All-Union Agricultural Exhibition’. After World War II, it underwent reconstruction and in 1959, it was reopened as the ‘Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of the USSR’.

The center showcases the achievements of the Soviet Union across various fields. To this end, many extravagant exhibition halls were constructed. In 1992, the center was renamed the ‘VDNH’. The main entrance is marked by a massive 32-meter-high archway, built in 1954, featuring a statue of two farmers holding a bundle of straw atop it.

Just beyond the main entrance stands a statue of Vladimir Lenin. It stands in front of the grand Soviet-style Pavilion 1, also built in 1954. This area once featured a statue of Stalin as well. It’s a place every traveler to Russia should visit.

The Various Zones of the VDNH
Behind Pavilion 1 stands the Peoples Friendship Fountain, constructed in 1954. This stunning fountain features 16 golden statues of women, each representing one of the 16 republics of the Soviet Union at that time.

Next to the Peoples Friendship Fountain is the Flower Stone Fountain. Its highlight is a flower sculpted from Ural stones, decorated with colorful pieces of smalt. Around the fountain’s pond are various bronze statues in different shapes.

Additionally, there were pavilions dedicated to economic and scientific achievements. Although most of them have since closed, these once showcased areas for education, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, health, beekeeping, space exploration, geology, fishing, agriculture, and livestock. Behind the park, near the Space Pavilion, stands a replica of the Vostok rocket.

Another intriguing site at the exhibition center for tourists to Russia is the 360-degree Circular Cinema. Built in 1959, it resumed screening specially made Soviet-era films in 2006. The cinema is located near the southern entrance of the center.

The Largest ‘Russia’ Exhibition in Modern Russian History
These days, a visit to the center offers a journey through all regions of Russia via an exhibition. It’s the largest exhibition in contemporary Russian history, with representatives from various regions, corporations, and social organizations showcasing local ‘specialties’. These exhibits highlight achievements across all fields, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding and firsthand experience.

Notably, you can enjoy Russian cultural and culinary performances. At the exhibition, products from over 700 producers are also presented. Russian tourists can take part in free activities, ranging from traditional cuisine and competitions to daily concert performances.
