Starting on March 7, 2024, Vietnamese citizens entering Mongolia for up to 30 days will not require a visa. This new policy simplifies the journey to the country.

On March 4, the official Mongolian government website announced the list of countries eligible for visa exemption, and Vietnam is included. Previously, Vietnamese travelers needed to apply for a visa or e-visa, with processing times ranging from 3 to 7 business days.
This is the latest step taken by Mongolia in gradually removing visa barriers to attract more international visitors. Vietnamese travelers can apply for an e-visa for three purposes: tourism, transit, and attending events. Once issued an e-visa, travelers can either print it out or save it on their phone to present at border control. For other purposes, Vietnamese citizens still need a paper visa.

In November 2023, Vietnam and Mongolia signed a bilateral visa exemption agreement. This agreement has contributed to expanding trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two countries. In late 2023, direct flights between Ulaanbaatar and Nha Trang commenced, increasing the number of Vietnamese travelers, especially after the pandemic.
With the new visa exemption policy, Vietnamese tourists can now save on travel expenses when visiting Mongolia. Notable attractions in the capital Ulaanbaatar include Gandantegchinlen Monastery, Sukhbaatar Square, the National History Museum, and Karakorum, among others.
