For domestic flights (i.e., flights from one province to another within Vietnam), passengers need to prepare the following documents:

Passengers must present specific required documents, including:

- Flight ticket (either a physical ticket or an e-ticket)

- Citizen identification card (can be substituted with a driver’s license, passport, personal identification certificate, or specialized cards such as National Assembly member card, Party member card, press card, etc.)

When completing domestic flight procedures, passengers under 14 years old must present one of the following documents:

- Flight ticket

- Passport

- Birth certificate, either the original or a certified copy

- Birth confirmation document: For cases under 1 month old without a birth certificate

- Confirmation document from a social organization for children under their care.

For passengers aged 12 to under 14 without a passport, or passengers under 12 years old, one of the following requirements must be met:

- Must travel with a legal representative.

- Requires accompanying a passenger who handles the flight procedures and stays with them throughout the journey, registered with the airline at the time of ticket purchase.

- Requires a commitment from the initial transporting airline's representative to care for the passenger until the journey's final destination.

International flights involve traveling from one country to another, such as from Vietnam to a foreign country or vice versa. For these flights, you will need to bring:

- Flight ticket (either a physical ticket or an e-ticket)

- Cash for airport taxes: Some airports may charge additional fees, and these fees are typically calculated in the local currency. It’s advisable to carry cash to avoid currency exchange at the airport.

- Passport: Passports are usually valid for 5 years for children and 10 years for adults. A passport serves as an international identification document.

- Visa (entry permit): Depending on the country, you may or may not need a visa. Additionally, if your flight includes a layover in a specific country, you may also require a transit visa alongside the destination visa.

Currently, several countries offer visa exemptions for Vietnamese citizens, including Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and more. Similarly, Vietnam provides visa exemptions for citizens of countries like Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and others. Each country has its own regulations regarding immigration procedures. Therefore, before traveling abroad, it’s essential to thoroughly research the entry and exit requirements of your destination to ensure you carry the appropriate documents.

- For children without their own passport, their full name, date of birth, and photo must be recorded and attached to the passport of their legal representative, such as their biological father, mother, adoptive father, adoptive mother, or legal guardian.

All documents required for air travel, whether for domestic or international flights, must meet the following conditions:

- For citizen identification cards, they are valid for 15 years from the date of issuance (as per Decree No. 05/1999/ND-CP dated February 3, 1999, on citizen identification, amended and supplemented by Decree No. 170/2007/ND-CP dated November 19, 2007).

- For personal identification certificates confirmed by the local police of the resident’s ward or commune, the validity period is 30 days from the confirmation date (based on the reissuance timeline for citizen identification cards as stipulated in Circular No. 04/1999/TT-BCA(C13) dated April 29, 1999, by the Ministry of Public Security, guiding certain provisions of Decree No. 05/1999/ND-CP dated February 3, 1999, on citizen identification).

All travel documents must have a photo with an overlapping seal. Exceptions include documents such as birth certificates, birth confirmation documents for children, security control cards, and airline identification cards.

Certain passengers, such as elderly individuals, pregnant women, or foreigners traveling on domestic flights within Vietnam, need to provide additional documents, including:

- Elderly passengers and pregnant women: In addition to necessary identification documents like flight tickets, citizen ID cards, and visas, they must also submit a Liability Waiver Form and a Health Certificate confirming their fitness for air travel.

- Foreigners traveling on domestic flights within Vietnam: Must carry essential documents such as a passport or a diplomatic note from consular authorities confirming their identity, including a photo with an overlapping seal.
