The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has issued a notification confirming the closure of four airports: Nội Bài (Hanoi), Cát Bi (Hai Phong), Vân Đồn (Quang Ninh), and Thọ Xuân (Thanh Hoa) due to the impact of Typhoon No. 3 Yagi.

Specifically:
– Nội Bài Airport (Hanoi) will remain closed from 10:00 on September 7th to 19:00 on the same day, September 7th, 2024.
– Thọ Xuân Airport (Thanh Hoa) will be closed from 12:00 to 22:00 on September 7th, 2024.
– Cát Bi Airport (Hai Phong) will remain closed from 05:00 to 16:00 on September 7th, 2024.
– Vân Đồn Airport will be closed from 04:00 to 16:00 on September 7th, 2024.
Additionally, the leadership of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has instructed the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to notify aircraft operating in the region and ensure safe flight operations. The Northern Airport Authorities are responsible for overseeing airport operations.
Domestic airlines are also planning to adjust their flight schedules for departures and arrivals at Nội Bài, Thọ Xuân, Cát Bi, and Vân Đồn airports on September 7th. Passengers are advised to monitor weather updates and notifications from their airlines.
The 22:00 (GMT+7) update reported that Typhoon Yagi reached winds of 120 knots, nearly 223 km/h, maintaining a Category 4 status on the Simpson scale. The strongest winds recorded so far were 135 knots, nearly 251 km/h, approaching the final stage of Category 4, but the storm did not reach its peak intensity.
However, as the storm crosses the Leizhou Peninsula (China), its winds are expected to decrease to around 186 km/h (Category 3). As it nears the Vietnam-China border, in the Quang Ninh and Hai Phong areas, the storm will continue to weaken rapidly, with winds forecasted to be near 139 km/h (Category 1), similar to Typhoon Prapiroon.
