The cultural values of Phung Hung mural street
It is known that Phung Hung Street, stretching from Phan Dinh Phung Street to Hang Bong Street, was originally a moat running along the outer wall of the East side of the Thang Long Imperial City during the Nguyen Dynasty. The street runs parallel to the elevated railway track, with one side featuring French-style houses, resting on the old walls of Thang Long City, still preserving the moss-covered tiled roofs, square chimneys, and small attic windows resembling pigeon coops.

To further enhance the beauty of Hanoi's tourism and evoke memories of the capital's daily life, the arches under the old French-built railway bridge have been adorned with artistic works depicting the lives of Hanoi's people over several decades. The murals are painted on wooden panels using PU paint and golden acrylics, then securely fixed onto the arches, preserving the structural integrity of the Phung Hung Street landmark.
Currently, after the opening of the Phung Hung mural street connecting to Dong Xuan Market on the evening of February 2, it has become a popular destination for young people, Hanoi residents, and domestic tourists.

The murals, ranging from traditional to modern styles, consistently feature images closely linked to Hanoi, such as the general merchandise stalls, street vendors carrying baskets, the clinking of trams, and calligraphy masters. These works on the arches evoke cherished memories of Hanoi. The art conveys a message about Hanoi, a thousand-year-old capital undergoing significant changes while preserving its traditions and cultural heritage.
