Vietnam Airlines also provides some important guidelines for senior passengers when flying as follows:
Regarding health
Vietnam Airlines does not impose any age restrictions for flying, but senior passengers should carefully consider their health before traveling.
If your grandparents or parents suffer from conditions such as heart disease, respiratory issues, blood disorders, neurological problems, or have recently undergone surgery, they should avoid flying. It is best to have them undergo a medical check-up before the flight to receive advice from their doctor.
If you need to carry prescriptions, ask the doctor to write down all health issues your grandparents or parents are dealing with, the treatment methods, the medications they are using, dosages, and how to administer them. Keep this information with the prescription in the carry-on luggage for easy access during the flight and to prevent any issues if luggage is lost. If traveling through time zones, consult with the doctor on the best times to take medication.
Buy Tickets
Senior passengers can easily purchase discounted tickets by visiting the branches or official ticket offices of Vietnam Airlines and presenting identification documents.
When purchasing tickets, it is advisable to inform the airline staff, ticket office, or agent to receive guidance on the required identification documents, health certificates, and medications or medical equipment that are allowed or prohibited on board. This also ensures that flight attendants are informed in advance, so they can assist your family member if needed during the flight.
Documents
Naturally, when traveling by air, your national ID card/passport are essential documents that you must have.
If you have health issues and need to carry special items such as syringes, oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, etc., please complete the MEDIF form (Medical Information Form) to provide this information to the airline. For registration instructions, details (here), and applicable fees (here), please visit the Vietnam Airlines website.
Note: Passengers should prepare their documentation at least 14 days before the scheduled departure of each leg of the flight. However, the following passengers must complete their documentation within 7 days before the departure of each leg of their flight:
- Passengers requesting stretcher services and/or the use of an oxygen tank during the flight.
- Passengers who require medical devices on board the flight.
Seating
Vietnam Airlines recommends using the seat selection service in advance to ensure senior passengers have a comfortable and spacious area. The airline will provide guidance and assign seats that are safe and tailored to the passenger's needs.
Check-in
To enhance the passenger experience and reduce waiting times at the airport, Vietnam Airlines has introduced a dedicated check-in counter for families with elderly passengers and young children at all domestic airports. Simply visit the counter marked “Family check-in” for this service. The check-in time at this counter is 3 hours before the scheduled departure for international flights, and 2 hours before for domestic flights.
Additionally, Vietnam Airlines offers passengers several other convenient options such as online check-in (via the website, mobile app, or kiosks at the airport), telephone check-in, and in-town check-in.
We hope the information provided here helps you prepare well for your upcoming flight. Should you have any questions or wish to book a ticket, please contact our hotline at 1900 2083 for fast and efficient support.
