Historically, Yen Tu Mountain has always been a central hub for Buddhism in Vietnam. During the Tran Dynasty, Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, in his later years, chose this mountain as his place of meditation. It was here that he founded the Truc Lam Zen School. Dong Pagoda is located on the highest peak of Yen Tu Mountain and is the largest bronze pagoda on a mountaintop in Asia.
Dong Yen Tu Pagoda features a square, four-roof design. The roofs are shaped like traditional Vietnamese tiles with ends that resemble dragon heads. The architecture is heavily influenced by the Tran Dynasty. The pagoda's roofs extend outward, forming eaves, while the three walls of the pagoda are constructed from tightly joined bronze panels. The lower part of the walls is adorned with intricate leaf patterns.
In the past, visitors had to trek over 6 kilometers of mountainous terrain and thousands of stone steps to reach Dong Pagoda. In recent years, however, the Yen Tu heritage site has introduced a cable car system, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of Yen Tu's mountains while comfortably ascending to the pagoda.
