As of December 1st, international visitors will no longer need to show a passport when leaving Thailand. Instead, biometric systems will be used for departure at airports.
No passport required when leaving Thailand from December 1st.
Thailand will introduce biometric facial recognition for international travelers departing from the country starting December 1, 2024. Thai citizens will also undergo biometric identification when leaving the country beginning November 1. Departures from 6 airports—Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang (Chiang Rai), Phuket, and Hat Yai—will no longer require presenting a passport.

There are two ways to travel from the baggage claim to the boarding gate without needing to show a passport. First, passengers can check in at the airport. Those activated in the biometric system will allow for recognition during check-in. Second, passengers who check in online can select their airline, choose 'register,' then scan their boarding pass barcode. Afterward, they will scan their passport and face.

Check-in machines at Thai airports have been updated to support biometric software. This innovation improves convenience, speeds up the process, and reduces waiting times, giving passengers more time for dining and shopping at the airport.
