The Tram Sau Forest captivates visitors with its endless green expanse, offering a wealth of delightful experiences amidst its cool, natural beauty.
An introduction to the charming Tram Sau Forest
The Tram Sau Forest is located in the Văn Trà hamlet, Văn Giáo commune, Tịnh Biên district, An Giang province. It lies approximately 20 km from Châu Đốc city and 10 km from the Vietnam-Cambodia border. This protected forest spans around 850 hectares and is a unique ecological tourism destination. It represents the wetland forest of the Hau River region and is home to a variety of plant and animal species, regulating the climate for the entire Bảy Núi region.
This captivating green destination is nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, surrounded by serene rivers. Majestic cajuput trees, rare birds, and wild animals surround it. Visitors can take boat trips to admire the picturesque canals and immerse themselves in the peaceful, verdant landscape.

The forest is home to 70 species of birds and storks, including two endangered species listed in the 'Vietnam Red Book' – the Indian stork (Giang Sen) and the snake-necked stork (Điêng Điểng). The ecosystem here is rich with wildlife, featuring 22 species of reptiles, 11 species of mammals, and 23 species of aquatic life. It also boasts a diverse plant life with 140 species from 52 families and 102 genera, including nearly 80 medicinal plants.

The best time to visit the cajuput forest
The flood season is the most beautiful time to visit the Tram Sau Forest. From September to November every year, the forest wears its graceful 'dress.' As the waters rise, the trees flourish, and a carpet of water lilies covers the surface. Beneath the water, many species of fish and shrimp swim, while above, various birds soar across the sky. Experiencing a boat ride here during the flood season is an unmissable activity.
Additionally, during the flood season, the forest displays the stunning beauty of water lilies and the vibrant yellow blossoms of the senescing flowers. The best times to explore the forest are early in the morning or at sunset. Notably, from 3-5 pm, many species of birds and storks gather in the forest, creating a peaceful, picturesque natural scene.

Exciting experiences at Tram Sau Forest
Walk along the longest bamboo bridge in Vietnam
The 10-kilometer-long bamboo bridge crossing the Tram Sau Forest was inaugurated in early 2020. Its unique architecture consists of bamboo poles assembled together. Along the bridge, rest huts are designed for visitors. The deeper you go into the forest, the more beautiful the scenery becomes, and the environment grows peaceful and cool. The bamboo bridge especially leads to the boat station, where you can embark or disembark to change your route.

Explore the forest by motorboat or canoe
From the forest's boat dock, visitors can choose between a motorboat or a traditional canoe. The boat will take you through narrow canals deep into the heart of the cajuput forest. Along the way, you may witness locals harvesting honey from cajuput flowers. A boat ride through the forest offers the perfect opportunity to relax, enjoy the scenic beauty, and capture stunning photographs in this green paradise, reminiscent of a magical land.

Admire the entire forest from the scenic tower
The scenic tower is equipped with a telescope offering a 25 km view, allowing visitors to take in the entire expanse of the Tram Sau Forest. You'll see birds soaring through the sky or nesting in the treetops, as well as the nearby Khmer village a few kilometers away.

Check-in at the pigeon house area
Right at the boat dock leading into the forest, visitors can spot the pigeon houses. This area is a popular spot for photos. Occasionally, flocks of pigeons appear, creating a picturesque, romantic scene. It’s also a great place to take wedding photos or feed the pigeons.

Visit the souvenir stalls
The swamp also features many souvenir shops offering local specialties. Notable items include palm sugar, honey from tea flowers, various dried goods, refreshments, tea oil, handwoven scarves, wide-brimmed hats, straw hats, and intricately carved wooden crafts.
Enjoy the Western specialties
Visitors to the swamp can savor meals at the Trà Sư restaurant. There are two dining areas to choose from: one along the outskirts of the forest near the boat docks and the other in floating huts within the swamp (including a scenic lookout tower). Some dishes to try include: grilled snakehead fish, fish hotpot with linh fish (during the flood season), fermented fish hotpot, coconut heart salad, and Vietnamese pancakes.
