Located at 13 Dien Bien Phu Street, Bac Lieu City, the Bac Lieu Mansion is a luxurious and imposing structure tied to the fame of a prominent figure known throughout the southern provinces of old.
An opulent and majestic ancient mansion

Constructed between 1917 and 1919, the Bac Lieu Mansion is often referred to as the 'Great House' due to its grandeur. The mansion features French architecture, with all materials imported directly from France. Every detail, from bolts to nails, was meticulously selected and brought here. This house is closely associated with the name of Tran Trinh Huy, the renowned playboy. Today, it stands as a prominent landmark in Bac Lieu City.

This splendid mansion was built by Tran Trinh Trach, the father of Bac Lieu's playboy, when his son was just 19 years old. Tran Trinh Trach owned 110,000 hectares of rice fields and nearly 100,000 hectares of salt fields. He had seven children, among whom Tran Trinh Huy was infamous for his extravagant lifestyle. It is said that the total wealth he squandered on lavish pursuits is estimated to be over 5 tons of gold. To this day, legends about this playboy continue to circulate among the people.

The Bac Lieu Mansion consists of two floors and a rooftop terrace. The staircase leading to the second floor is made of marble, divided into three sections, each with nine steps symbolizing eternity. The wooden staircase to the rooftop was where the playboy's father used to dry money. Inside the house, intricate designs and exquisite details abound. The chandeliers cast a shimmering light, creating a warm ambiance. Each column is adorned with beautiful decorative patterns.

Impressive interior design within the mansion
The ground floor of the house features 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, and 2 grand halls. The first floor includes 3 bedrooms and two additional spacious and luxurious halls. The mansion also displays numerous items and artifacts once used by Bac Lieu's playboy, such as vintage cars, mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture, music players, and landline telephones that are still functional. Visitors are advised to avoid touching or sitting on the chairs to prevent scratches.

Notably, Bac Lieu's playboy used two different beds each year. The first bed, designed for summer, was embedded with marble to keep it cool. Contrary to popular legends, he did not spend a fortune to boil eggs. However, he once burned a 100-dong note (equivalent to 10 gold bars) to search for his lover's earring.

A must-visit attraction
The Bac Lieu Mansion also houses a vast collection of antique porcelain and bronze items, showcasing the wealth of its former owner. The combination of priceless ancient artifacts, French architecture, and tales of the infamous playboy leaves a lasting impression on visitors. As a result, this mansion has become a favorite destination for tourists visiting Bac Lieu and the broader Mekong Delta region.

The Bac Lieu Mansion enjoys a convenient location, allowing visitors to easily explore nearby attractions. Highlights include Bac Lieu Market, Ong Quan De Temple, the memorial area of musician Cao Van Lau, and Hung Vuong Square.
