Hai Van Quan – A Historical Treasure atop the Legendary Pass
The Hai Van Quan relic is located at the summit of the Hai Van Pass, marking the boundary between Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang. This site is known as the 'world's most majestic pass.' The structure was built in 1826 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, standing 490 meters above sea level. It was intended to control the North-South road and the Da Nang Bay. Hai Van Quan also served as a key military defense post for the Imperial City of Hue.

The Hai Van Quan pass holds strategic importance in protecting the country. It stands as a symbol of strength and endurance through time. The site has been damaged multiple times due to wars and fallen into ruin. However, the recognition of its historical and cultural significance has since increased. This has led to the initiation of restoration and preservation projects aimed at reviving the majestic beauty of this national historical monument.

At the end of 2021, the restoration project for the Hai Van Quan relic was launched. The Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports collaborated with the Hue Imperial City Conservation Center to carry it out. The total investment for the project exceeded 40 billion VND, with the goal of reconstructing the site to match the original structure from the Nguyen Dynasty.
The Hai Van Quan after Restoration – The Revival of a Historical Symbol
After more than two years of restoration, the Hai Van Quan relic has undergone a complete transformation. It has become an alluring historical and tourist destination. Key structures such as the Vũ Khố house, the Trú Sở house, the gate, watchtowers, and the city walls have been restored to their nearly original form. This allows the site to exude the grandeur it had during the peak of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Hai Van Quan is a nearly 200-year-old historical structure, offering a magnificent view at nearly 500 meters above sea level. The restoration not only preserves this heritage but also boosts the local economy and society, turning it into an unmissable destination for anyone exploring Vietnam's heritage.
