The Landais Alzheimer Village, located in the southwest of France, is a distinctive place where the residents no longer have to worry about remembering where they left their wallets.
An ordinary yet extraordinary village
The Landais Alzheimer Village has gained attention because every resident suffers from memory loss. The village is exploring a new care model for elderly individuals with dementia.

The village covers nearly 7 hectares, with several one-story wooden houses. Each house accommodates about 8 residents, who share a kitchen, living room, and dining area. The average age of the residents is approximately 79 years old.

The care model of the Landais Alzheimer Village
At the Landais Alzheimer Village, 240 medical staff and volunteers are available to assist residents with their daily tasks. They can chat on the porch, meet in the park, or exercise together before returning to their individual homes.

The main goal of the Landais Alzheimer Village is to allow residents to maintain close relationships without feeling isolated. Experts aim to “preserve daily interactions between the village and the outside world,” and through this, they seek to shift society's perspective on Alzheimer’s, fostering a more positive public view of the disease and promoting a happier life for those affected.
