What are Vietnam Airlines' rules for carry-on and checked baggage when flying?
CARRY-ON LUGGAGE
Vietnam Airlines states that standard carry-on baggage includes one piece of luggage and one accessory item.
Your carry-on luggage must meet the following criteria:
- The maximum weight for a single carry-on item is 10kg / 22lb
- The total weight of carry-on baggage must not exceed:
+ Economy Class: 12kg / 26lb, including one item and one accessory
+ Premium Economy / Business Class: 18kg / 40lb, including 2 pieces of luggage and 1 accessory
(With the exception of Premium Economy on domestic flights within Vietnam: 12kg / 26lb, including 1 piece of luggage and 1 accessory)
- The total maximum dimensions (length, width, height) must be within:
+ For 1 carry-on luggage: 115cm (56cm x 36cm x 23cm)
+ For 1 accessory: 40cm x 30cm x 15cm
In addition to the carry-on luggage mentioned above, passengers are also allowed to bring personal items onboard the aircraft for free. The personal items that can be carried without charge include:
- Umbrella (excluding those with a handle or an umbrella with a pointed metal tip)
- 1 book, newspaper, or magazine
- Coat or scarf
- Equipment for passengers with disabilities
- Stroller for infants (depending on the capacity of the aircraft, the stroller may be transported as checked luggage)
Note: If the carry-on baggage exceeds the allowed quantity, weight, and size mentioned above, the baggage will be required to be checked in.
CHECKED BAGGAGE
Vietnam Airlines regulation:
- The maximum weight for each checked baggage item is:
+ Economy Class/ Premium Economy: The maximum weight is 23kg/ 50lb
+ Business Class: The maximum weight is 32kg/ 70lb
- The total dimensions (length, width, height) of the checked baggage should not exceed 158cm/ 62 inches.
Note: If any piece of luggage exceeds the specified limits above, passengers will be asked to repack their luggage and pay for excess baggage fees at the airport or may be required to send it via cargo.
CHECKED BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE FOR DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
Each passenger is entitled to the free baggage allowance as stated on the ticket, as follows:
- Southeast Asia consists of the following countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
- On some flight routes, the economy saver class does not include free baggage allowance.
- If the checked baggage exceeds the specified weight or size limits, passengers must pay an additional fee for the excess weight and/or size.
- For children under 2 years old who do not have their own seat:
+ For flights to/from the Americas: 1 piece with a maximum weight of 23kg/50lbs and total dimensions not exceeding 115cm (45 inches), plus 1 collapsible stroller.
+ Additional baggage allowance: You are permitted to carry 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 10kg/22lb, with a total combined dimension of 3 sides not exceeding 115cm (45 inches), as well as 1 foldable stroller (not applicable for super saver tickets).
