The Vietnam Salt Craft Festival in Bac Lieu 2024, titled 'A Century Journey of Salt Craft – A Lifetime,' carries the theme 'Enhancing the Value of Vietnam's Salt.' This festival, held for the first time in Bac Lieu, features a variety of engaging activities in both content and form, showcasing beautiful traditional cultural values. It aims to honor and preserve the salt-making profession of Vietnam, while also promoting and introducing Bac Lieu's salt products and the profession's strengths to the whole country.
Program details of the festival
This first-ever festival related to salt is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the People's Committee of Bac Lieu Province. Around 50 central delegates, 250 representatives from provinces and cities, and international organizations are invited. Approximately 500 local delegates will attend the opening and closing ceremonies, along with related activities.
The Salt Craft Festival features a series of diverse activities and events throughout the event. Notably, the opening and closing ceremonies stand out. Additionally, there is a product exhibition market and trade fair showcasing products and businesses from various provinces and cities, as well as cooperative societies; a display space for models, artifacts, and advancements in salt production and processing techniques from Bac Lieu and other participating regions; investment promotion conferences in agriculture and rural development; workshops on applying science and technology in salt production to adapt to climate change; and a progress review meeting for implementing Decree No. 40/2017/ND-CP dated April 5, 2017, by the Government on managing salt production and business…
In addition, visitors attending the Vietnam Salt Craft Festival will have the opportunity to participate in tours exploring Bac Lieu's salt fields; enjoy the activities 'Come to Bac Lieu and Listen to Don Ca Tai Tu' (traditional Southern music); and take part in painting and photography competitions related to salt production activities…
Plans and Projects for Salt Industry Development
To promote the development of the salt industry, the Prime Minister of Vietnam has approved the Salt Industry Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Decision No. 766/QD-BNN-KTHT on February 24, 2021, regarding the implementation plan of Decision No. 1325/QD-TTG, dated August 31, 2020, by the Government, which approves the Salt Industry Development Plan for 2021-2030.
Furthermore, the Ministry is also implementing a pilot project to enhance the quality and value chain of Vietnam's salt industry for the period 2021-2025. This project is being carried out in eight provinces: Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Nghe An, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Ben Tre, and Bac Lieu.
