Founded on November 8, 2011, the Vietnam Literary Museum houses an extensive collection of literary works and artifacts related to famous writers.
The Remarkable Literature on Display at the Vietnam Literary Museum
The Vietnam Literary Museum officially opened its doors to the public on June 26, 2015. The museum is located on the former grounds of Quang Ba Writing School, preserving numerous memories of the country’s renowned writers and poets. It stands as one of the very few literary museums in the region, playing a significant role in researching, collecting, preserving, displaying, and educating the public about the nation’s literary heritage.

Visitors to the museum will be amazed by its vast space of 3,600m2, which showcases over 4,000 artifacts and documents. The museum has two main exhibition sections: the outdoor display dedicated to Vietnamese folk literature, recreated through ceramic reliefs and a series of 20 statues of notable literary figures from the ancient to medieval periods.

The indoor exhibition spans three floors, housing and preserving thousands of items. This area showcases the history of literature from the Ly Dynasty to the present day, featuring a wealth of materials about Vietnamese authors. Each artifact tells a true story about the life and career of these writers.

The Three Floors of the Museum
On the three floors of the Vietnam Literary Museum, the first floor features artifacts from the ancient and medieval periods. At its center, you’ll find a classic verse from 'Truyện Kiều': 'Chữ Tâm kia mới bằng ba chữ Tài', inscribed on the wall. In front of it, there’s a stone shaped like a pen nib, brought from the Hung Temple. The first floor also showcases the history of Vietnamese writing through various materials such as dó paper, fabric, metal, and wood. The space recreates scenes of scholars preparing for exams and the return of the Doctor to their village to honor their ancestors...

The second floor exhibits artifacts and documents about prominent figures in early 20th-century Vietnamese literature, including Phan Bội Châu, Tản Đà, and later writers such as Nam Cao, Ngô Tất Tố, Tế Hanh, Nguyên Hồng... The third floor displays works by authors who received the State Prize for Literature and Arts during the French colonial period, featuring writers from the V region, Central South, North, and South. This floor also houses a statue of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941).

Among the nearly 4,000 documents and artifacts at the Vietnam Literary Museum, there are truly unique items. These include the wooden desk once used by the writer Nguyễn Du, a statue of King Trần Nhân Tông from his 13th-century journey to Yên Tử, and a set of rosewood furniture that President Hồ Chí Minh used to entertain King Bao Dai in 1946… Each artifact tells a lively story. This museum is a must-visit for those who appreciate Vietnamese literature.
