The Yên Bái Paragliding Festival “Flying Over Scenic Lands – Golden Season 2024” will be held during the September 2nd holiday at Lìm Thái village, Cao Phạ commune, Mù Cang Chải district.

The Yên Bái Paragliding Festival is an event that combines sports with a campaign to promote tourism in Mù Cang Chải. In September, Mù Cang Chải is adorned in golden hues with endless rice terraces. Due to its breathtaking beauty, it ranks first on Wanderlust Storytellers' list of the 25 most otherworldly destinations.
From September 1-2, a paragliding festival will take place to promote the region’s scenic beauty to both domestic and international tourists. Visitors will witness performances by 20 motorized paraglider pilots who will coordinate aerial displays with artistic smoke formations. Hundreds of non-motorized paragliders will take off from the Khau Phạ mountain pass, soaring over the Lìm Mông valley and landing near the opening ceremony area.
The most unique event will be the flight to raise the Vietnamese flag in celebration of the National Day. The competition will include accuracy landing, high-flying, and distance challenges to earn points. From August 25 to November 30, the program also offers tandem paragliding experiences for tourists. Tandem flights come in two types: with and without motors. Visitors will fly with professional pilots.
Other events alongside the paragliding festival
In addition to the Yên Bái Paragliding Festival, the district will host the Sơn Tra Flower Festival, themed “The Legend of Sơn Tra.” There will also be an art program to celebrate Independence Day on September 2nd with the theme “The Shape of the Nation.” Other events include the bánh giày festival, the Mông people’s New Rice Celebration, and a competition for bamboo and rattan weaving products, as well as an exhibition of bee wax art on fabric.
Since 2014, paragliding has been a highlight in Mù Cang Chải. It has become an incredibly attractive paragliding site. Since then, the Yên Bái Paragliding Festival has grown into a popular annual event. Experiencing both flying through the air and witnessing the surreal beauty of the landscape is a truly unique adventure. The event has also received strong support from local people, fostering greater awareness of preserving cultural identity and encouraging cultural exchange.
