With all airports now permitting passengers to use digital identification documents through the VNeID app instead of paper forms for domestic flight check-ins, passengers enjoy greater convenience. However, there are a few key things to consider to ensure a smooth flight experience.
Starting from early August 2023, all airports across the country will accept passengers using VNeID accounts as equivalent to physical identification documents. For Vietnamese passengers, the app serves as a replacement for their citizen ID. For international passengers, the app can substitute for their passport or any other valid travel document.
Important Notice: To use the app, your electronic identification account must be at level 2. Those using a level 1 electronic ID account will not be able to replace their Citizen ID with the VNeID app during airport check-in.
The rule for using VNeID accounts or physical identification documents applies only to domestic flights, covering all stages of the journey (check-in, security screening, boarding).
Steps to use your VNeID account for air travel that you need to remember
Step 1: Once you have a level 2 VNeID electronic ID account, log in and click on the 'Personal' section to enable the app verification using a QR code.
Step 2: In the 'Home' section, generate a QR code to authenticate your electronic ID. Note that the QR code is only valid for one minute. If it expires, you will need to generate a new one to continue using the service.
Step 3: The airport administrator logs into the level 2 electronic ID account, then scans the QR code generated in Step 1. The VNeID system will verify whether the user's identity is real or fake. The results of this verification process will appear immediately on the screen.
Step 4: After successful verification, tap on 'Wallet and Documents' to display the integrated data and documents, then present them to the airport staff for processing.
Important reminders when flying with VNeID
- Even if passengers have a level 2 identification account set up on their phone, it is recommended to carry physical identification documents (such as a citizen ID, passport, etc.) as a backup. This is to avoid issues like weak network, phone malfunction, battery depletion, or forgotten login credentials for VNeID. If a passenger cannot access their level 2 ID account and has no physical documents, the airport will be unable to assist with boarding.
Before going through check-in, make sure to open the VNeID app to avoid forgetting your password or losing connection, as it could cause delays and traffic congestion at the airport.
