Located in Cam Ranh Bay, Bình Ba Island is both a tranquil retreat and renowned as the 'lobster kingdom' due to its exceptional lobster farming industry.
Bình Ba – 'The Lobster Kingdom'

'Bird’s nest from Hòn Nội, Ninh Hòa’s swimming duck, Bình Ba lobsters, Diên Khánh dried venison, Võ Cạnh trout, and Thủy Triều blood clams.' Surely, every local in Khánh Hòa has heard this famous rhyme about these six unique specialties. Bình Ba Island is a small island covering over 3 km² in Cam Bình commune, Cam Ranh. It lies in Cam Ranh Bay, just 15 km from Cam Ranh port. The island attracts tourists with its long, white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lobster farming. Nowadays, visitors can reach the island by a high-speed boat from Cam Ranh port in just 20 minutes.

The island has three villages: Bình Ba Đông, Bình Ba Tây, and Bình An, with a population of 3,800 people, who have lived there for over 200 years. Lobster farming has helped the locals rise from poverty. The industry began in the 1990s, initially with a few families raising lobsters in wooden cages surrounded by B40 wire and nets. Today, the commune has over 400 rafts, with about 15,000 lobster cages, mainly for blue lobsters.

Delicious dishes made from Bình Ba lobster
Lobster prices in Bình Ba are considered the base rate. Visitors can ask the locals to prepare the lobster for them. The lobster is cooked in the traditional local style, preserving its natural aroma, tenderness, and sweetness. Although farmed, the lobsters are fed entirely natural food and live in clean waters, which makes their meat top quality. You should try dishes like steamed lobster, grilled lobster, lobster porridge, or lobster blood wine. Other specialties in Bình Ba include Mai fish salad, fried cuttlefish, grilled blood clams with scallion oil, Huỳnh Đế crabs, sea urchins, and fish cake noodles...

Note that Bình Ba Island is a military area, and visitors should avoid areas with restricted signs. You must carry valid identification. Be sure to bring enough cash for the trip. The best time to visit Bình Ba is between March and October when the sea is calm, and there are no storms. Weekends and holidays tend to be crowded in Bình Ba, so it's a good idea to book your accommodation in advance to avoid overbooking.
