Capella Bangkok, a luxurious retreat overlooking the serene Chao Phraya River, has claimed the top spot in the 2024 list of the world's 50 best hotels, just four years after its opening. Despite launching in 2020 during the pandemic, Capella Bangkok has risen impressively, captivating travelers with its exceptional service and refined accommodations.
Capella Bangkok Proudly Leads the 2024 World's Best Hotels List
With 101 spacious, sunlit rooms, Capella Bangkok offers a luxurious retreat for every guest. The riverside villas, featuring private gardens and pools, are perfect for those seeking privacy and tranquility.
General Manager John Blanco shared with CNN Travel: "When you come to Bangkok, it's vibrant, chaotic, quirky, and noisy, but when you arrive at the hotel, you experience a moment of absolute relaxation: a private space, a garden with beautiful greenery, and the soothing sounds of birdsong."
Josephine Png, Capella Bangkok's Marketing Director, also shared with CNN Travel that her favorite spot in the hotel is "on the riverside terrace, under the trees." During the day, it’s incredibly peaceful, but at night, the river comes alive with the sight of party boats gliding by.
Opening the hotel during the pandemic turned out to be a "golden opportunity," Blanco said, as it gave them time to connect with their neighbors. "The pandemic allowed us to truly get close and build relationships with the Thai people, who are wonderful guests."
Now, the rest of the world is discovering the hotel too—and many guests have returned multiple times, Blanco noted. "Thailand is one of those destinations that’s incredibly captivating, making you fall in love and crave more experiences. It’s almost like an addictive drug."
Asia Dominates the 2024 World's Best Hotels Ranking
Capella Bangkok is one of four hotels in Thailand’s capital to make the Top 50, with Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River securing the 12th and 14th spots, respectively, while The Siam ranks 26th.
2024 is clearly a standout year for Asia, with 7 of the top 10 hotels hailing from the region. Hong Kong’s Rosewood takes 3rd place and The Upper House ranks 5th, while the 137-year-old Raffles Singapore—birthplace of the Singapore Sling cocktail—claims the 6th spot.
Ranking eighth, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives also clinched the 2024 Lost Explorer award for "Best Beach Hotel." After all, this is a resort dedicated to "barefoot luxury," where guests surrender their shoes upon arrival and don’t get them back until departure.
The 45-story Bulgari Tokyo, in 22nd place, secured the 2024 Nikka award for "Best New Hotel."
