The Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi flight route is one of the busiest domestic routes in Vietnam. During the Tet holidays, especially the Lunar New Year, this route becomes even more in demand. As a vital route connecting the two major cities of Vietnam, which are key economic and tourist hubs, the demand for travel between these two cities is enormous, driven by people studying, working, or conducting business. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that all domestic airlines offer a wide variety of flexible flight schedules for this route compared to many other domestic routes. Another point to note is that due to the considerable distance between the two cities, combined with the high demand for flights, ticket prices for this route are typically higher. During the Tet holiday, especially the Lunar New Year, when many passengers travel home to reunite with their families, the prices tend to rise even further.
According to the fare search system on Mytour.vn, it is easy to notice that ticket prices for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi departing in January 2023 have been on the rise since the beginning of the month. Specifically, the lowest fare recorded by Mytour during the first half of January 2023 on this route was 640,000 VND/way and 749,000 VND/way with VietJet Air, appearing only on a few select days early in the month.
Starting from January 9, 2023 (18th of the 12th month in the Lunar calendar), ticket prices began to increase rapidly. The lowest fare during this period was 1,108,000 VND/way, offered by Vietravel Airlines. Other airlines also had similar prices, such as 1,119,000 VND/way with VietJet Air, and 1,171,000 VND/way with Bamboo Airways.
After this date, up until January 20, 2023 (29th of the 12th month in the Lunar calendar), the prices continued to climb, with some days seeing starting fares as high as 2,200,000 VND/way with VietJet Air or 2,303,000 VND/way with Vietravel Airlines.
On January 21, 2023 (30th of the 12th month in the Lunar calendar), the starting fare dropped to just 1,653,000 VND/way, offered by Vietravel Airlines. Prices continued to decrease gradually, and by the end of January, the fares dropped even faster. On the last two days of January, January 30-31, 2023, the fare on this route was as low as 38,000 VND/way, applied by Vietravel Airlines.

Thus, it can be observed that the prices for the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route have been rising rapidly. In January 2023, fares started to increase significantly and continued to climb until the 29th day of the Lunar New Year. The fares only started to show a decrease from the 30th day of the Lunar New Year onwards, as demand for flights during the peak holiday period began to diminish.
