Familiarizing yourself with and remembering the hazardous goods policy of Emirates airline ensures you are well-prepared for your flight, preventing unnecessary complications during your journey on upcoming international flights with the airline.

Any goods or substances that pose a risk to passenger health or safety, or could potentially damage the aircraft, are strictly prohibited by Emirates for transport.
Prohibited Items
Dangerous items are goods or substances that could pose a threat to the health or safety of passengers or cause damage to the aircraft. These items are not allowed on board. A list of all prohibited items can be found in the tables below. Please refer to the list of prohibited goods according to the EC Aviation Security regulations. Other local restrictions may also apply. Please check with the relevant authorities in your departure and destination countries.
Emirates strictly prohibits the transportation of all types of self-balancing scooters (whether the lithium battery has been removed or not) as either checked or carry-on luggage.
Prohibited Substances in the UAE
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) enforces a very strict, zero-tolerance drug policy. All airports in the UAE conduct thorough screenings with highly sensitive equipment. Any traveler caught with any illegal drugs, whether entering or transiting through the UAE, will face severe penalties.
Bringing Medication into the UAE
If you are bringing controlled medication into the UAE, you must submit an approval request through the Ministry of Health (MoH) website.
You can consult your doctor to check if your prescription medication is controlled. You must also carry the prescription for the quantity of medication (for up to 3 months) you are bringing into the UAE.
All other medications (prescribed for non-controlled drugs and over-the-counter medications) do not require prior approval from the Ministry of Health.
Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages in retail packaging must contain more than 24% but no more than 70% alcohol by volume, stored in containers of no more than 5L, with a total limit of 5L per person.
BATTERIES OR BATTERY-POWERED DEVICES
Remote-Controlled Aircraft
For safety reasons, we cannot allow remote-controlled aircraft in carry-on baggage. These must only be accepted as checked baggage. However, remote-controlled aircraft are not permitted on any flights to Jordan. On all other flights, if you check in a remote-controlled aircraft, you must ensure that the Lithium batteries are securely attached to the drone or removed and carried in your carry-on baggage. This policy applies even if you are connecting to our flights from another airline that allows remote-controlled aircraft as carry-on luggage.
Batteries
Spare or loose batteries, including lithium metal or lithium ion batteries and accumulators for handheld electronic devices, are only allowed to be transported in carry-on luggage. Items primarily designed to supply power, such as power banks, are considered spare batteries. These batteries must be stored separately to prevent short circuits. Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of 20 spare batteries.
Lithium Batteries: Security Devices
Lithium battery-powered security devices can only be accepted after consultation with the Security Team.
Lithium Batteries: Handheld Electronic Devices
Lithium batteries: Handheld electronic devices containing either lithium metal or lithium ion batteries, including medical devices such as portable oxygen concentrators (POC) and consumer electronics like cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and tablets carried by passengers or crew for personal use. For lithium metal batteries, the lithium content must not exceed 2 grams, and for lithium ion batteries, the capacity must not exceed 100 watt-hours. Each passenger is allowed to carry up to 15 personal electronic devices (PEDs). PEDs must be packed separately and not affixed or attached to other electronic devices. For safety reasons, authorities may confiscate items that are improperly packed or if the number of PEDs exceeds the 15-device limit per passenger.
Batteries or Spare Batteries Exceeding 100 Watt-hours or Containing More Than 2 Grams of Lithium
Spare or loose lithium batteries with a capacity exceeding 100 watt-hours but not more than 160 watt-hours for consumer electronics and portable medical electronic devices (PMED), or with a lithium content above 2 grams but not exceeding 8 grams for PMEDs, may be carried. A maximum of two spare batteries are allowed in carry-on baggage. These batteries must be stored separately to prevent short circuits.
Smart Devices with Removable Batteries

The battery is removable and falls within the size and weight limits allowed for carry-on baggage in the aircraft cabin.
You are allowed to bring a smart bag into the passenger cabin if the battery is removable and meets the size and weight limits for carry-on luggage. There is no need to remove the battery if the smart bag is completely turned off. The smart bag can be checked in if the battery has been removed and carried into the cabin. If the smart bag exceeds the applicable size/weight limits for the flight or if the battery has not been removed, the device will not be allowed on the Emirates flight.
Handheld Electronic Devices Containing Non-Removable Dry Batteries
For handheld electronic devices with non-removable batteries, the battery must comply with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Special Conditions A67, and must not exceed a voltage of 12 volts or a consumption of more than 100 watt-hours. A maximum of two spare batteries may be carried.
Electronic Devices Using Lithium Batteries
Lithium-powered electronic devices. Lithium ion batteries used in handheld electronic devices (including medical devices) with a power consumption greater than 100 watt-hours but not exceeding 160 watt-hours. For handheld medical electronic devices, lithium metal batteries with a lithium content greater than 2 grams but no more than 8 grams are allowed.
Electronic Cigarettes
Electronic cigarettes (including e-cigars, e-pipes, portable e-cigarette tips (flavors), or other personal smoking devices) containing batteries must be stored separately to prevent accidental activation.
Battery-Powered Mobility Aids or Wheelchairs
Personal Motorized Vehicles
For safety reasons, we cannot accept motorized personal vehicles such as hoverboards, small Segway-type scooters, and self-balancing scooters on our flights. Emirates prohibits the transport of all such devices—whether they contain batteries or not—as both checked baggage or carry-on luggage.
Battery-Powered Mobility Devices with Dry Cell Batteries
Mobility aids: Battery-powered wheelchairs or similar mobile devices with non-leaking wet-cell batteries or batteries that comply with IATA’s Special Regulations A123 or A199, provided the batteries are protected against short circuits.
Mobility Aids with Wet Cell Batteries
Mobility aids: Battery-powered wheelchairs or other similar devices with batteries that may leak or contain lithium batteries. If the wheelchair or mobility aid can be stored, secured, and removed from the upright position, the battery may remain attached. The battery terminals must be protected to prevent short-circuiting, for example, by being enclosed in a battery box, and the battery must be securely attached to the wheelchair or mobility aid. Emirates may impose additional restrictions on lithium batteries.
Mobility Aid: Lithium-ion Batteries (Removable)
Mobility Aids: Battery-powered mobility aids with removable lithium-ion batteries must have the batteries removed and carried in the cabin. The batteries for such wheelchairs must not exceed 300 watt-hours, or for a device requiring two batteries to operate, each battery must not exceed 160 watt-hours. You are allowed to bring one spare battery up to 300 watt-hours or two spare batteries up to 160 watt-hours for each battery.
AEROSOLS, CYLINDERS, COMPRESSED GAS BOTTLES
Snow Rescue Backpacks
A snow rescue backpack, one (1) backpack per person, containing a compressed air canister. It may also be equipped with an ignition mechanism that holds no more than 200 milligrams of mass as specified in Section 1.4S. The backpack must be carefully packed to prevent accidental activation. The air bags in the backpack must be connected to a pressure relief valve.
Portable gas canister, small, non-flammable
A portable gas canister, small, non-flammable, containing carbon dioxide or another suitable gas. A maximum of two (2) small canisters can be stored inside an inflatable safety device such as a life jacket or vest. No more than one (1) device per passenger, with a maximum of two (2) spare small canisters for each person, not exceeding four (4) canisters with a maximum of 50 ml water capacity for other devices.
Non-toxic, non-flammable spray cans
Non-toxic, non-flammable spray cans, with no potential hazards, intended for sports or indoor use. The total net weight of the aerosol products or cleaning products without radioactive substances, and non-toxic, non-flammable spray cans must not exceed 2 kg or 2 L, and the net weight of each type must not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 liters. The gas release valves on the spray cans must be protected by caps or other appropriate items to prevent accidental leakage of substances.
Hair curling tools containing hydrocarbon gas
Hair curling tools containing hydrocarbon gas, with a maximum of one (1) per passenger or crew member, provided the safety casing is securely attached to the heating element. These tools are not allowed to be used aboard the aircraft at any time. It is prohibited to carry gas canisters for hair curling tools in either checked or carry-on luggage.
FUEL AND FUEL CANISTERS
Portable gas stove and fuel canister
A portable gas stove and fuel canisters containing loose flammable fuel, with empty fuel containers and/or canisters, can be carried as long as the fuel tank of the portable stove and/or fuel canister has been completely consumed and all potential hazards have been neutralized.
Fuel cell
A fuel cell, a component for mobile electronic devices.
Fuel cell
Fuel cells containing fuel, used to power portable electronic devices (e.g., cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and camcorders).
Internal combustion engine or fuel cell engine
Internal combustion engines or fuel cell engines must comply with the conditions outlined in Special Condition A70 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, which specify that the engine must not contain any fuel used for its power source.
MEDICAL ITEMS

Specific items accepted for transport must adhere strictly to the airline's regulations.
Insulated packaging containing liquid nitrogen for cooling
Insulated packaging containing liquid nitrogen (dry shipper), fully absorbed in a foam material that only contains non-hazardous goods.
Oxygen cylinder, gas cylinder
Oxygen cylinders, gas cylinders used for medical purposes. The cylinder must not exceed 5 kg. Note: The transport of liquid oxygen systems is strictly prohibited.
Radiation isotope pacemaker
A radiation isotope pacemaker or other similar devices, including lithium batteries, implanted in or attached outside the body, or radioactive pharmaceuticals inside the body due to medical treatment.
Non-infectious specimens
Non-infectious specimens packaged with small quantities of flammable liquids must comply with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Special Condition A180 (details on the special packaging requirements for such specimens can be found in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations).
Thermometers or barometers containing mercury
Thermometers or barometers containing mercury, carried by a government meteorologist or a similar weather station staff member, must be packaged in sturdy packaging with an inner lining that is sealed, or in a leak-proof bag made of thick, durable, mercury-resistant material to prevent any mercury leakage from the packaging.
Thermometers, both medical or clinical types
A medical or clinical thermometer containing mercury, one (1) set per individual, in a protective case.
POWDERED SUBSTANCES
Powder-like substances
All flights to, from, or through the United States, as well as from or through Australia and New Zealand, will undergo additional enhanced security screenings. This is in accordance with new security guidelines from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Australian Department of Home Affairs, and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. Under the new directive for flights to U.S. destinations, powder-like substances in containers of 350 ml/grams or more must be checked in and will not be allowed in carry-on luggage or bags. These items will be confiscated at Dubai (DXB), Milan (MXP), and Athens (ATH), depending on the final departure point. Powders under 350 ml/grams may undergo additional screening. Baby formula, prescription medications, and human ashes are exempt from screening. Powder-like substances purchased at airport duty-free shops must be placed in a sealed transparent bag along with proof of purchase.
WEAPONS, AMMUNITION, AND EXPLOSIVES
Items containing explosives
Fireworks and any other items containing explosives, such as Christmas crackers, sparklers, fountains, and signal flares, are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage on our flights.
Disabling Devices
It is prohibited to carry disabling devices such as mace sprays, pepper sprays, etc., which contain irritants or substances that impair mobility, in both checked baggage and carry-on luggage.
Stun Guns
It is prohibited to carry stun guns (such as Taser guns) containing hazardous materials like explosives, compressed gas, lithium batteries, etc., in carry-on luggage, checked baggage, or on your person.
Ammunition
Ammunition (weapon cartridges) must be safely packaged (only in 1.4S, UN 0012 or UN 0014), with a total weight not exceeding 5 kilograms per person for personal use. Excess baggage for multiple individuals should not be combined into one or more packages.
