Located on the Hau River near Long Xuyen city center, the Long Xuyen floating market is a must-visit destination that captures the essence of Southern Vietnam's countryside charm in An Giang.
The Long Xuyen floating market in An Giang's riverine area

The Long Xuyen floating market starts at O Moi ferry, stretching along the Hau River for about 2 km, within the My Phuoc and My Long wards. The market operates from 5-6 AM, winding down by 8 AM. Traders primarily deal in agricultural products, fruits, essentials, and food items. Boats and canoes are tightly packed together in clusters for buying and selling.

Although road transportation has advanced and river trade isn’t as bustling as before, locals around the floating market still prefer transporting goods by boat. This is due to the convenience of selling directly from boats and the deep-rooted tradition passed down through generations. Notably, goods here are sold at very low prices, as it’s a wholesale hub. Traders often purchase goods here to distribute to markets within and outside the province.

The unique atmosphere of the floating market
At the Long Xuyen floating market, visitors immerse themselves in the bustling trade atmosphere of the river region. A distinctive feature of the market is the “bẹo pole,” where goods are displayed and introduced to buyers. This unique advertising method is exclusive to floating markets. Customers can identify what a boat is selling by looking at the bẹo pole hanging at the bow.

When the market is in full swing, boats selling drinks and breakfast items cruise around to serve customers. Drinks and food at the market cost between 15,000 and 25,000 VND. The floating market also attracts tourists who enjoy breakfast on the boats and shop for goods, especially fresh Western region fruits like pomelos, mangoes, plums, and coconuts. Boat rides to the market cost 100,000 VND per person.

After exploring the Long Xuyen floating market, visitors can head to Ong Ho islet, visit incense-making villages, apple orchards, and the Ton Duc Thang Memorial Site.
