When it comes to traveling to Hue and touring the imperial city, one cannot help but think of the glorious and prosperous era of Vietnam's feudal dynasties. Despite the many ups and downs of history, this place has retained its ancient, serene charm and has not lost its former grandeur and magnificence. If you have the chance to visit Hue, do not miss the Imperial City, a historically significant site, and the remnants of the Nguyen Dynasty kings preserved in the tombs and temples…
Additionally, in the past, the location and architectural style of a king's tomb were personally chosen by the ruler. As a result, these royal tombs are situated in pristine locations and feature uniquely designed structures. Let us take you through four famous tombs in the ancient capital of Hue, recognized as provincial-level historical relics!
Four Tombs Recognized as Provincial-Level Historical Relics
Truong Dien Tomb
Truong Dien Tomb is located in a very secluded area, far from main roads and surrounded by dense bushes… This is the tomb of Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, the second Nguyen Lord, known as Truong Dien Tomb, situated in Hai Cat Village, Huong Tho Commune, Huong Tra Town, Thua Thien - Hue.

The tomb is enclosed by two concentric walls, constructed with materials similar to those used in Truong Co Tomb. The outer wall has a circumference of 121 meters and a height of 2.5 meters, while the tomb of Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen is built with two tiers, resembling the tomb of Lord Nguyen Hoang. Visiting Truong Dien Tomb offers a chance to explore and hear stories about this Nguyen Lord. However, due to its remote location, finding the tomb can be challenging. Additionally, the tomb is not regularly maintained, resulting in overgrown weeds covering the site and several sections of the walls being degraded or collapsed.
Truong Hung Tomb
This is the tomb of Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan (also known as Thai Tong Hieu Triet Hoang De, 1620 - 1687), the fourth Nguyen Lord, referred to as Truong Hung Tomb. Located in Hai Cat Village, Huong Tho Commune, Huong Tra Town, this tomb is also called the Tomb of Nine Basins due to its unique features compared to other Nguyen Lords' tombs.
Similar to other Nguyen Lords' tombs, Truong Hung Tomb features a comparable structure, surrounded by two concentric walls. The outer wall has a circumference of 210 meters and a height of 2.57 meters, while the inner tomb measures 53 meters in circumference and 2 meters in height. In 1996, Truong Hung Tomb was restored, and a stone stele was added, making it the first Nguyen Lord's tomb to have a stele. The stele is inscribed with Chinese characters and a Vietnamese summary of Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan's achievements.
Vinh Co Tomb
Another site recognized as a provincial-level historical relic in Thua Thien - Hue is Vinh Co Tomb. This is the tomb of the wife of Lord Nguyen Hoang, who was posthumously honored as Tu Luong Quang Thuc Minh Duc Y Cung. To commemorate her contributions, you can visit her tomb located in Huong Tho Commune, Huong Tra Town.
Tomb of Emperor Hiep Hoa
Unlike the grand tombs of other Nguyen Dynasty emperors, such as the tombs of Emperor Tu Duc, Emperor Khai Dinh, or Emperor Minh Mang, which attract numerous visitors daily, the tomb of Emperor Hiep Hoa is modest and simple. Among the 13 Nguyen emperors, one was buried in a humble tomb located 7 kilometers west of Thua Thien - Hue.
The Tomb of Emperor Hiep Hoa is situated in An Tay Ward, Hue City, covering an area of approximately 30 m2. Although it is located in a pine forest and lacks the grandeur of other Nguyen emperors' tombs, it still deserves its place among the listed relics of the Hue Monuments Complex.
With this recognition, these historical sites are receiving more attention for restoration and preservation, ensuring their connection to the nation's history remains intact. Additionally, this provides an opportunity for both domestic and international tourists to explore and appreciate their historical significance.
