Bamboo Airways, along with numerous other airlines, imposes strict guidelines on the transport of lithium batteries. Items with these batteries undergo thorough checks before boarding. Discover more about specific items subject to these regulations with Mytour.

What are the regulations of Bamboo Airways regarding the transportation of items containing lithium batteries?
Electric wheelchairs, mobility aids, and battery-powered wheelchairs
Passengers requesting to use lithium battery-powered wheelchairs, mobility aids, and assistive devices will be allowed to carry them as checked luggage if they meet the Dangerous Goods Regulations set by IATA. Passengers are kindly requested to notify the Bamboo Airways Reservations department at least 48 hours before departure, and inform the airline's check-in staff at the airport.
Wheelchairs, mobility aids, and assistive devices with NON-REMOVABLE batteries
• The battery cannot be removed from the wheelchair or mobility device (the device cannot be folded):
- The battery remains inside the device and is securely attached to the wheelchair or mobility aid.
- The battery terminals must be protected from short circuits by insulating the terminals (e.g., by tightly wrapping tape over the contact points).
- The mobility aid / wheelchair must be turned off and protected from accidental activation.
- There is no battery power rating limit (WH).
Wheelchairs, mobility aids, and assistive devices with REMOVABLE batteries
• The battery can be detached from the wheelchair or mobility aid (a device that can be folded):
- The battery must be removed and safeguarded from short-circuiting by insulating the terminals. Afterward, the wheelchair or mobility aid can be checked in without any restrictions.
- The detached battery should be protected from damage by placing it individually in a protective bag and carried as hand luggage.
- The power capacity of a battery must not exceed 300Wh, or for devices with two batteries, each battery must not exceed 160Wh.
- Passengers are allowed to carry one spare battery of up to 300Wh, or two spare batteries, each not exceeding 160Wh. These must be transported as carry-on luggage.
Handheld electronic devices (PED)
All personal electronic devices containing lithium metal or lithium-ion batteries, including medical devices like personal oxygen concentrators or personal electronics such as watches, computers, phones, laptops, cameras, camcorders, etc., are allowed to be carried either in checked luggage or as carry-on, provided they meet the battery requirements mentioned above.
Electronic cigarettes
Electronic cigarettes (including e-cigars, e-pipes, and other personal vaporizing devices) are only permitted to be transported on a person or in carry-on luggage. These devices and their batteries must not be charged or used during the flight. Batteries should only be carried in carry-on luggage and must be protected separately to prevent accidental activation during transport by placing them in individual containers or bags or using other insulation methods for the battery terminals.
Lithium-powered electronic cigarettes are classified as handheld electronic devices (PEDs) and must adhere to the transportation limits for PEDs. Each electronic cigarette must not exceed a lithium content of 100 Wh or 2g. A maximum of 15 PEDs are allowed to be carried in carry-on luggage and/or on the person. This includes the number of PEDs carried in checked luggage.
Prohibited personal transport devices
All small personal transport devices powered by lithium batteries (e.g., mini-Segways, hoverboards, solowheels, airwheels, balance wheels, etc.) are banned from both checked and carry-on luggage, regardless of whether the battery can be removed from the device. If these items are brought to the airport, they will be denied at check-in. Passengers are responsible for making arrangements to store or dispose of these items before boarding the flight.
Smart luggage refers to suitcases and bags that incorporate advanced technology for improved functionality.
Luggage powered by lithium batteries, commonly known as 'smart luggage', may include features like motors, backup chargers, GPS, GSM, Bluetooth, RFID, or Wi-Fi.
All existing regulations regarding the transport of lithium batteries will apply to the shipping of 'smart luggage'.
In addition, the acceptance of 'smart luggage' for transportation must meet the following requirements:
- Carry-on luggage
+ The lithium battery must not exceed 160 Wh.
+ The Lithium battery must be removable, though it can still be installed within the device.
+ Luggage must comply with the carry-on baggage guidelines.
+ All transmitting functions (such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) must adhere to the limits for handheld electronic devices permitted on the plane.
- Checked luggage
+ The Lithium battery must be removed and carried to the aircraft cabin.
+ The Lithium battery must not exceed 160 Wh.
+ Each passenger is allowed to bring up to two spare Lithium batteries with a rating of 100-160Wh into the aircraft cabin.
