Villains are omnipresent, featuring in films, literature, animations, and even real-world scenarios. They devise plans, conspire, and commit acts of violence against heroes and their allies, all for personal gain. Despite their malevolence, villains are essential to countless narratives. As an audience, we often find comfort in the certainty that the villain will face their inevitable downfall, even before the story reaches its peak. In some instances, this downfall is quite literal, as illustrated in the examples below.
10. Mola Ram Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Mola Ram was the terrifying antagonist in *The Temple of Doom*. He and his followers worshipped a deity named Kali Ma, conducting brutal human sacrifices in her honor. He would extract their hearts before casting them into a fiery pit to meet their end. Mola Ram also forced individuals to drink a potion that warped their minds, compelling them to obey his commands. In the end, Mola Ram plummeted into the water, where the crocodiles made quick work of him.
9. Ratigan The Great Mouse Detective

Professor Padriac Ratigan, a cunning mouse, aspired to rule Mousedom as its king. To achieve his goal, he coerced Mr. Flaversham into constructing a robotic duplicate of the mouse queen, which Ratigan planned to use to legitimize his claim to the throne. He blackmailed Flaversham by threatening to have his daughter devoured by a cat if he refused. Throughout the film, Ratigan repeatedly used feline threats to enforce obedience among his followers. His reign of terror culminated in a climactic battle with Detective Basil atop Big Ben, where Ratigan met his end by plummeting to his death from the iconic London clock.

The Big Bad Wolf has an insatiable appetite for little pigs. The three pigs try to protect themselves by building houses. The wolf easily destroys the straw house of the first pig and the stick house of the second pig, devouring both. However, the third pig constructs a sturdy brick house and lights a fire inside. Unable to blow down the brick house, the wolf attempts to enter through the chimney. He falls into the fire, gets cooked, and ends up becoming the pig's dinner.
7. Vincent Crabbe Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Vincent Crabbe is a loyal companion of Draco Malfoy, a newly initiated Death Eater. Harry Potter and his friends are on a quest to locate and destroy Horcruxes, objects containing fragments of Voldemort's soul. These Horcruxes grant Voldemort the power to return even if his body is destroyed. While searching for a Horcrux in the Room of Requirements, Harry, Ron, and Hermione encounter Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. Crabbe attempts to cast the Killing Curse at Hermione but misses. He then unleashes Fiendfyre in an attempt to kill Harry and his friends. The room quickly becomes engulfed in flames, trapping the trio of villains. As they climb a pile of debris to escape, Crabbe slips and falls into the fiery inferno he created.
6. Charlie Kempthorne Poldark

Rosina’s father insisted she marry Charlie Kempthorne, a wealthy but greedy and self-centered man. Despite barely knowing Rosina, Charlie was determined to make her his wife. Her father forced her into the marriage, resorting to physical violence when she resisted, leaving her injured. Later, Charlie faced trial for allegedly misappropriating funds. Convicted of embezzlement, he was sentenced to death by being thrown off a cliff.
5. The Sphinx

The Sphinx posed a riddle: “What walks on two legs in the morning, four legs in the afternoon, and three legs in the evening?” Residing atop a cliff, the Sphinx had the body of a lion and the head of a man. It would ask this riddle to all who passed by, devouring those who failed to answer correctly. One day, a traveler responded, “Man—he crawls as a baby, walks upright in adulthood, and uses a cane in old age.” Enraged by the correct answer, the Sphinx leaped from the cliff and vanished forever.
4. Hans Gruber Die Hard

Hans Gruber, leading a group of criminals, seizes control of Nakatomi Plaza on Christmas Eve, taking numerous hostages. His goal is to steal $640 million from the plaza’s vault. After extracting the vault code from executive Tagaki, Gruber faces resistance from police officer McLane, who demands the hostages' release. McLane eliminates several of Gruber’s henchmen, prompting Gruber to retaliate by capturing McLane’s wife, Holly. McLane feigns amusement, distracting Gruber long enough to shoot him in the shoulder. Gruber stumbles and plummets through a window to his death on the street below.

Mufasa, the lion king, rules the jungle, with his son Simba destined to succeed him. Scar, Mufasa’s envious brother, schemes to seize the throne. After failing to have Simba killed by hyenas, Scar orchestrates a wildebeest stampede, leading to Mufasa’s death. Scar convinces Simba that he is responsible, causing Simba to abandon his royal destiny. Years later, a vision of Mufasa urges Simba to reclaim his throne. Simba returns to Pride Rock, confronting Scar in a fierce battle. Defeated, Scar falls from the cliff and is consumed by the hyenas.
