Warning: This article contains mild spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
It seems Justin Baldoni wasn’t exactly thrilled with Deadpool & Wolverine.

Let’s take a step back. You’ve probably heard by now that Justin’s It Ends with Us co-star, Blake Lively, is suing him for alleged sexual harassment that caused her "severe emotional distress." Justin’s legal team has denied these claims and is countersuing the New York Times for alleged libel over its coverage of Blake’s lawsuit.

Enter Ryan Reynolds (Blake’s husband) and Deadpool. Variety reports that Justin’s legal team sent a letter to Disney executives earlier this month regarding the character Nicepool in Deadpool & Wolverine, portrayed by ‘Gordon Reynolds,’ also known as Ryan.

Marvel. Ryan is also credited as a writer and producer on the film.
According to Variety, the letter demands that Marvel and Disney retain "all documents related to the development of the 'Nicepool' character" as well as "communications regarding the development, writing, and filming of scenes featuring 'Nicepool.'" They also ask for the preservation of "any documents relating to or reflecting a deliberate attempt to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate, or bully Baldoni through the character of 'Nicepool.'"

In simpler terms, Justin's legal team believes that Justin may have inspired the creation of the character Nicepool (and not in a positive way). This is a comparison others have made online, so let’s dive into it.

Marvel
When Nicepool is introduced, he says, "Did you see Ladypool? She’s stunning. She just had a baby, and you wouldn’t even notice." When Deadpool calls him out on it, Nicepool responds, "That’s alright, I identify as a feminist." Later, Deadpool exclaims, "Where in God’s name is the intimacy coordinator?!"

Marvel
It’s important to note that Ladypool, voiced by Blake, ultimately takes violent revenge. In real life, Blake has accused Justin of making inappropriate and sexual comments about her postpartum body and weight. The lawsuit also claims Justin improvised sexual moments without an intimacy coordinator.

Justin's lawsuit claims that such an account is misleading or taken out of context.
In a deleted scene, Nicepool also says, "I’d be fighting alongside you, but my true calling is to one day start a podcast that monetizes the women’s movement." Though it’s not in the final version of the film, some have speculated that it’s a jab at Justin’s podcast, The Man Enough.

Nicepool is also portrayed as a spiritual man with a man bun. This led Justin's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, to comment, "There’s no question it relates to Justin."

Blake even made a reference to Nicepool in the credits of It Ends with Us by thanking "Gordon Reynolds." Blake also reportedly stated on Instagram that both It Ends with Us and Deadpool & Wolverine were about "Nice men who use feminism as a tool."
