Lucy shared on the *Asian Enough* podcast from the Los Angeles Times that while filming a scene, Bill began throwing insults, which she described as "inexcusable and unacceptable."

"Some of the things that were said were simply unacceptable, and I wasn’t going to just sit there and tolerate it," she explained. "So, yes, I defended myself, and I have no regrets. No matter who you are or where you come from, there's never a reason to belittle or look down on others."

At that time, Lucy also mentioned that she and Bill had patched things up — and in a recent interview with *The Guardian*, the iconic actor elaborated on why she chose to stand up for herself.

"I honestly didn’t give it much thought," she said. "I would’ve done the same in any circumstance."

"When I feel something isn't right, my instinct is to protect myself. It's a natural response when you sense injustice, and I always feel that way," she shared.

Lucy reflected that if she had been the type to ignore such treatment, she would have likely encountered "a much easier road" in the entertainment industry overall.

"Since I've never been that type of person, we had to find another way. There has never been an easy path for me or other Asian American actors — I truly believe it’s a collective effort. I would never claim the credit for it all," she stated.

"My career has not been a solo journey," she said.
