When Simon Cowell frowns or rolls his eyes, it’s usually a bad sign for the performer about to take the America’s Got Talent stage. While his reactions were famously wrong during Susan Boyle’s audition, they’re often accurate, as seen in other cases.
In 2013, a contestant named Special Head stepped onto the AGT stage, but Simon Cowell wasn’t among the judges that day. Instead, Howard Stern joined Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Mel B on the panel. None of them anticipated what Special Head had in store.
The 28-year-old contestant began with a deep, resonant hum, undeterred even when Stern hit his buzzer. As the audience jeered, Special Head amplified his humming, gripping a walking stick with one hand.
The crowd’s boos turned to gasps when Special Head suddenly levitated into the air, still holding the walking stick. After a moment, his legs dropped, and a puff of smoke appeared, leaving the audience cheering. The judges unanimously voted “yes,” advancing him to the next round.
Following the performance, several websites revealed Special Head’s secret. They explained that his cane was connected to a hidden seat under his robe, creating the illusion of levitation. Despite the explanation, the act still delivered a jaw-dropping WTF moment.
9. End the Violence
Despite its controversies, the show became a pop culture sensation and even returned for a reunion series in 2018. During its initial run, it featured numerous shocking moments, such as The Situation intentionally headbutting a wall and Snooki being punched by a man.

8. The Incorrect David

These iconic words have marked some of the most dramatic and contentious moments in Survivor history. The show began with a group of Americans stranded in Borneo, facing elimination every three days at Tribal Council.
Following each council meeting, one contestant would be voted off the island, their torch symbolically snuffed out. The series has aired 40 seasons, with the 41st delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the years, Survivor has delivered countless shocking moments, including a contestant sustaining severe burns after collapsing near a fire, unexpected nudity, medical emergencies, surprise romantic gestures, and even the unlawful harvesting of coral from the Great Barrier Reef.
In Season 13, the term “tribe” took on a controversial new meaning, sparking global outrage. The producers chose to segregate contestants into tribes based on race: African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, and European-American.
Following backlash and the withdrawal of sponsors like Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble, Survivor abandoned this approach and reorganized the tribes.

American Idol is closely associated with Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, and its fair share of scandals. The show dominated ratings during its initial eight-year run, went on a two-year hiatus after Season 15, and was successfully revived in 2018.
Fans across the globe often find themselves yelling at their televisions or monitors when the show reveals the voting outcomes. This reaction was particularly intense following the disputed exit of Chris Daughtry in the fifth season and Adam Lambert's surprising defeat by Kris Allen in the eighth season.
Yet, it appears that many viewers tuned in primarily for Simon Cowell's sharp critiques. He once likened a contestant to a 'bush baby' due to their large eyes and bluntly told a female performer, 'You look unattractive when you sing.' Another contestant was compared to 'Dolly Parton on helium,' highlighting his harsh yet memorable commentary.
Some contestants, however, didn't passively accept the harsh feedback. In the third season, Jonathan Rey, an 18-year-old, struggled through Shakira's 'The One.' Tyra Banks's America’s Next Top Model is famous for its awkward model poses and the dramatic conflicts among contestants living together. Several controversies centered around Banks. In one instance, she advised contestant Kim Stolz against being overly vocal about her sexual orientation. When Stolz expressed pride in being gay, Banks replied, 'There’s a fine line with pride. Like, I’m black and proud, but I don’t announce it on the red carpet: ‘I’m black. I’m black.’'
Danielle Evans, a winner of the show, chose not to fix the gap in her teeth. Banks questioned the marketability of this feature, asking Evans if she genuinely believed she could secure a CoverGirl contract with her distinctive smile.
Additionally, several photo shoots controversially featured white models in blackface. In a particularly distressing moment from Cycle 15, contestant Kayla was coerced into kissing a male model despite disclosing her past trauma of childhood sexual assault. After reluctantly complying, she was praised for 'overcoming her painful memories.'

No such list would feel complete without mentioning the whirlwind that is Keeping Up With The Kardashians. In September 2020, the Kardashian family revealed the reality show would conclude after 20 seasons, leaving many fans disheartened by the announcement.
Throughout its run, the Kardashians have arguably delivered more jaw-dropping moments than any other reality series. They’ve managed to upset various groups, accused each other of infidelity, and stunned viewers with surprise pregnancies and secret births that sparked countless conspiracy theories. The show has also featured arrests, sibling rivalries, a controversial Playboy photoshoot, emotional breakdowns, and even debates over breast milk.
Among the family’s most debated incidents were a prolonged clash with Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner’s involvement in a heavily criticized Pepsi commercial, allegations of Kim using blackface to market her KKW beauty brand, and her apparent endorsement of appetite-suppressing lollipops.
2. Love Isn’t Easy
It seems like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have been a staple on television for ages. These shows have spawned numerous spin-offs and inspired adaptations in various countries around the world.
This reality series has seen its fair share of outrageous incidents, such as a contestant having an affair with a producer and a 'Bachelor' rejecting both finalists. In another memorable moment, a 'Bachelor' mistakenly called out the wrong name during a rose ceremony, reminiscent of Ross Geller's infamous blunder.
Another shocking twist involved a 'Bachelor' who ended his engagement with the contestant he proposed to, only to pursue the runner-up. Additionally, there was Bachelor J.J., who still resided with his parents during Season 11 and made an awkward attempt to flirt with Amy Schumer.
The Bachelor continues to deliver jaw-dropping moments, as seen in Season 20. Contestant Lace made an immediate impression by kissing bachelor Ben Higgins right after stepping out of the limo on the season's opening night.
During the season, Ben bluntly told contestant Sam that she had a 'sour' smell. In an attempt to relate, contestant Olivia chose to vent about her 'cankles' immediately after Ben shared the tragic news of losing two close family friends in a plane crash.
1. The Villainous Mother
On Say Yes to the Dress, Randy Fenoli often encourages brides visiting Kleinfeld Bridal in Manhattan to select a wedding gown they adore and feel confident wearing. He emphasizes that they shouldn’t compromise on a dress just to satisfy their family or friends.
While some brides heed his advice and trust their instincts when picking a dress, others become overshadowed by their entourage. Family members or friends sometimes dominate the appointment, imposing their preferences on the bride.
In the episode titled “I’m The Evil Mom Here,” even the usually calm and gentle Randy couldn’t hide his frustration with Samantha’s mother. She made harsh remarks like, 'I don’t like that dress. It’s ugly.'
When the mother was reminded that she had initially liked the same dress on a mannequin, she retorted, 'Yes, but not on Samantha. On her, it’s ugly,' and then laughed.
After discovering she was borderline diabetic, Samantha shed over 50 kilograms (110 lb) and was determined to find a wedding dress that made her feel stunning. (She had already explored more than 100 bridal shops before her visit to Kleinfeld.) However, her mother continuously mocked her choices, even comparing one of her preferred dresses to a 'curtain.'
Randy eventually stepped away from the session, stating, 'I’ve never witnessed anything like this. I can’t continue to be part of this situation.'
