With Halloween approaching and my personal love for campy horror flicks, I decided to compile this list of the top five reasons why these films captivate us. Despite their flaws, they never fail to bring a grin to our faces. Here’s why they’re so delightfully terrible yet utterly entertaining.

Reason 1
“Maybe we should split up!?!?” The characters often display a baffling lack of common sense. Why would anyone wander off alone in a pitch-black forest, surrounded by clear signs of danger? We all know what happens to those who stray from the group. This classic trope is brilliantly showcased in films like The Hills Have Eyes.
If you’re a horror enthusiast, you’ll adore the 1977 classic The Hills Have Eyes available at Amazon.com!
The Body Count. Ever noticed how everyone seems to meet their end in the same spot? And if not, their bodies mysteriously end up together. It’s as if filmmakers can’t resist the chance to drench the screen in blood and gore.
Reason 3“The door is stuck!” The escape route never works when it matters most. It functioned perfectly fine moments ago, but as soon as the heroine needs to flee from the killer, it jams. This has to be one of the most overused tropes in horror history.

“Bad Time For A Breakdown.” The car, much like the door, always fails at the worst possible moment. No matter how many times you turn the key, it refuses to start until the very last second. This classic trope is masterfully executed in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a film that otherwise stands out as a horror masterpiece.
Reason 5“Aren’t You Supposed To Be Dead?” It’s impossible not to marvel at how the killer always survives. Poor Jason has faced drowning, explosions, and dismemberment, yet nothing can stop him. If these villains actually died, we’d miss out on the hilariously awful sequels that keep us hooked.
Of course, these reasons don’t apply to every horror film, and kudos to the original ones that avoid relying on clichés. As always, if you can think of any additions to this list, feel free to share them in the comments!
