Hello and happy weekend, folks! Welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, our weekly feature showcasing quick and delightful drinks. This week’s cocktail is perfect for those moments when you're stuck at home due to ice storms, snowstorms, and the occasional bomb cyclone.
It seems like many people are either trapped indoors or just choosing to stay warm as temperatures drop across the country. Even Florida, where I've celebrated Christmas in 90-degree heat, has seen some snow recently—both enchanting and a bit concerning.
But if you're going to be stuck inside, you’ll need a drink to keep the vibe going—and it should be a fun one! Regular margaritas might feel too summery for a snowed-in gathering, but adding smoky mezcal makes this version a cozy, winter-ready choice. Here’s how to make it:
1 1/2 ounces mezcal (I used blanco)
1 ounce fresh lime juice (or bottled, if you're snowed in and don't have fresh limes)
3/4 ounce agave syrup (made with 2 parts agave nectar and 1 part water)
Fill a shaker with ice (or just a large ice cube) and mix everything together by shaking until it's thoroughly chilled. Strain the mixture into a coupe glass, then sip away until the stir-crazy feeling disappears. Still feeling bored? Send a few daring texts—it’s always a great way to spice things up.
