Hello and Happy Friday, friends! Welcome back to another edition of 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink series where we serve up simple yet scrumptious concoctions. This week, as we wrap up Retro Week, we’re revisiting a quirky classic: the sweet, vibrant Grasshopper.
Step into Retro Week, where we’ll be channeling 1950s wisdom on everything from casserole crafting to fallout shelter tips to the simple joys of letting kids play with the wonders of trash.
Originating in New Orleans, the Grasshopper is a minty dessert cocktail that took off during the 1950s and 60s. This drink not only tastes like an alcoholic Andes mint, but its stunning green color is also a treat for the eyes. To whip up this indulgent drink, you’ll need the following ingredients:
1 ounce of green crème de menthe
1 ounce of white crème de cacao
1 1/2 ounces of cream (I prefer to add a bit more cream because I like to live a little luxuriously.)
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice—regular ice works perfectly fine, or opt for a large cube for a smoother shake—and shake vigorously until it’s nearly too cold to handle. With a strong shake, you’ll create a lovely froth on top, so don’t hold back! Strain the mixture into a coupe glass and, if desired, garnish with mint leaves or a dusting of cocoa powder.
