Welcome to the first weekend of February! If you joined in, congratulations on making it through Dry January. I’ve heard it’s been pretty chilly, and personally, I find the best way to beat the cold is by staying cozy indoors with a drink—preferably one featuring rum.
This drink, which I whipped up earlier today, blends rich, molasses-infused dark rum with the fruity, wine-like Lillet Blanc, and a splash of zesty Meyer lemon juice. I’m playfully calling it “Screw Snow.” If Meyer lemons are hard to find, regular lemons will work just fine, or you could experiment with grapefruit or any citrus you have on hand. Just note that sweeter citrus may lack the acidity needed for a well-balanced drink. Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Screw Snow:
1 1/2 ounces dark rum
1 1/2 ounces Lillet Blanc
3/4 ounces Meyer lemon juice
Throw everything into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously until the shaker gets too cold to hold. Strain into a coupe glass, sip, and enjoy staying in for the night.
