While 'Something and Cokes' may not technically fall under the cocktail category, it's hard to deny how tasty they are, especially when you blend cola with a multifaceted, herbal liqueur like the ever-interesting Cynar.
Cynar—an artichoke-based liqueur you might recall from this or this or this—doesn’t really taste like artichokes. There’s a hint of vegetal flavor, but thanks to the many herbs and botanicals, it’s more reminiscent of a dense, verdant forest than a garden. Paired with Coca-Cola (preferably the Mexican version), you get a balanced mix of sweetness and bitterness, a more refined soda that's ideal with pizza, takeout, or anything else you want to indulge in on a Friday evening. For extra depth, try adding bitters and experimenting with flavor combinations to tweak the taste profile (both lime and chocolate bitters work wonderfully). To craft this drink, you'll need:
1 1/2 ounces Cynar
Approximately 4 ounces Coca-Cola
3 dashes of your preferred bitters, either original or flavored
Pour Cynar and cola into a lowball glass filled with ice, then stir gently until just blended. Add a dash of bitters, take a sip, and repeat as necessary.
