Pasta is one of the most reliable carbs when you need to fill up a meal, and dip is the perfect savory complement. Pairing macaroni with chip dip seems like fate at work. With just a tub of dip and some pasta, you can create a simple yet tasty dish. But to really go all out, you might want to prepare it as a casserole.
Dip can easily double as a pasta sauce.
Before dismissing the idea, think of chip dip as a ready-made sauce. Adding creamy cheese dip to elbow macaroni is a familiar idea, right? Combine leftover pico de gallo with hot linguine and a sprinkle of parmesan for a flavorful treat. The freshness of chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and peppers packs a punch. You can also make a quick faux cacio e pepe by using garlic parmesan dip, cracked black pepper, and fettuccine. Other dips like spinach dip or caramelized French onion dip, which are often made with ingredients like mayonnaise, cream cheese, or sour cream, blend beautifully with heat and offer rich flavor. If you have leftover sausage or bacon, toss it in for an effortless dinner. One of my favorite combinations is spreading Trader Joe’s garlic spread and dip over spaghetti and finishing it with a generous amount of black pepper. It’s mouthwatering, and the garlic breath afterwards is just a reminder of how great dinner was.
Try making a chip dip pasta casserole for a unique and satisfying dish.
If you need to feed a crowd or prep meals for the week, turn this simple idea into a casserole. Grab any dip you have, mix in some shredded cheese, cooked spaghetti, chopped protein, and maybe some frozen veggies. Cover it with more cheese and bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until it’s bubbling and the cheese is melted. For a creamier texture, I like to add a couple of eggs to help bind the ingredients and make the casserole easier to slice later.
The last pasta-dip casserole I made featured fettuccine, cubed ham, Trader Joe’s caramelized onion dip, spinach, and two eggs. I’m a fan of most onion dips, and this one had a bold onion flavor that stood out beautifully. Feel free to add chopped herbs or sautéed vegetables that pair well with the dip’s flavors. You can even get creative by blending different dips and sauces, letting the dip flavors either shine or blend into the background. (And don’t forget, a side of chips makes the perfect companion!)
