Maybe you’ve noticed I’ve been obsessing over ice cream lately. When the heat is on, cold treats are a must, and even though I (a Pacific Northwest resident) don’t get much sun, I know somewhere, someone is basking in it—and that’s good enough for me.
I’m not alone in this craving. Babs—known for brunchwithbabs—is also thinking about ice cream. She’s come up with two clever ice cream-related ideas that can help you serve and enjoy your ice cream cones.
The first is an ice cream cone preparation trick: Babs lines a muffin tin with inexpensive cupcake liners, scoops ice cream into them, and freezes the scoops. When it’s time to serve, she inserts an upside-down cone into each scoop and peels off the liner.
The second hack reduces the mess. Before inverting the cone, Babs places a mini marshmallow at the bottom, which works like the chocolate at the base of a Drumstick, preventing leaks and keeping things tidy.
A third hack—one I noticed with my sharp eyes, though Babs didn’t mention it—involves adding sprinkles to the cupcake liners before scooping in the ice cream. This way, the scoops come out already pre-sprinkled, with the sprinkles frozen in place, so they stay on as you enjoy your treat. (For a Drumstick effect, try using peanuts.)
Beyond ice cream, it’s worth mentioning that Babs is a fantastic follow with loads of other useful hacks, recipes, and tips unrelated to ice cream, including a weed killer hack that I’m eager to try this week. (While I may not see much sun here in Oregon, I’ve got plenty of rain, and the weeds are thriving.)
