Whenever I suggest a new spirit, I aim to incorporate it into several recipes, preventing it from gathering dust on your bar cart. This is especially important for high-end bottles, and green Chartreuse—which I used in Mytour’s birthday cocktail—is quite an investment.
It’s also incredibly potent and flavorful (110 proof, to be specific), and a little goes a long way in making a cocktail feel extraordinary (which is my favorite sensation). For example, a Campari and soda is already bursting with bold flavors and herbal bitterness, but adding Chartreuse elevates it to the level of a herbaceous punch, with hints of wildflowers and hillsides, although the soda water helps temper the intensity. Unfortunately, this combo doesn’t lend itself to a clever name like the “Ferrari,” but I’ve taken to calling it the “Camptreuse,” which has a nice ring to it.
Here’s what you’ll need to prepare it:
3/4 ounce Campari
3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
Approximately 4 ounces of soda water
Combine the Campari and Chartreuse in a large lowball glass, then fill it with ice. Top with soda water, give it a gentle stir, and add a strip of lemon or orange zest as a garnish if you have one on hand.
